Overview
Psychiatric Emergency Team Clinician (PETC) is an authorized Licensed Mental Health Professional having completed
all requirements for Los Angeles County LPS designation to evaluate and/or place mentally disordered persons meeting
criteria for Involuntary Hospitalization on 5150 Holds to San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for 72-hour emergency
intervention.
The PETC customarily and constantly exercises discretion and independent judgment free from immediate supervision
when discussing with psychiatrist. The PETC evaluates complex medical and legal information and makes decisions
after considering different options with substantial significance to ensure compliance with Los Angeles County LPS laws
and organizational policies/procedures.
The PETC will coordinate assessment information with the Medical Director Program Director and/or Nursing Manager/
Charge Nurse and appropriate Community Agencies prior to disposition or transport.
This position requires providing care and/or service to a mentally ill geriatric patient population in a manner that
demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical
Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall
support San Gabriel Valley Medical Centers strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement
Plan (PIP).
Responsibilities
MAJOR TASKS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Psychiatric Emergency Services Clinician will be mobile only for San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.
They will maintain current licensure.
Be aware of any changes in the laws in L.A. County LPS.
Be a member of the SGVMC Allied Staff.
Complete initial patient evaluation/assessment regardless of payer source and documents appropriately
5150 and advisements are filled out completely and appropriately.
Contacts admitting psychiatrists after each assessment to relay evaluation information.
Contacts families/placements if appropriate to assist with assessment.
Attends and actively participates in team meetings in-services etc.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Attends 5150 proctoring with Medical Director.
On-call 24 hours/Day and on rotation weekend schedule will arrange coverage if not available.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current State of California Licensure: Doctor of Psychology (PhD) Medical Doctor (MD) Marriage and Family
Therapist (MFT) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Current State of California Licensed Registered
Nurse or Current State of California Licensed Psychiatric Technician
Masters Degree in Social Work Psychology or related field or similar experience in lieu of education.
Los Angeles County Department Mental Health LPS designation indicating training completion in involuntary
detention laws and procedures including patients rights successfully passing County examination.
Minimum 3 years experience in acute mental health.
Minimum 3 years current experience as a Licensed Mental Health Professional working with adult geriatric and
orthopedic patients recent psychiatric experience preferred.
Current BLS certification (AHA)
Current AB-508/Management Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training or within 3 months of hire
