Job Summary

Job Title: Boiler Plant Operator

Duration: 6-month contract with the possibility of an additional 6-month extension.

Shift Schedule (All Applicable Shifts):

24/7 operations rotating shifts required

Day Shift: 8:00 AM 4:00 PM (arrival 7:45 AM)
Swing Shift: 4:00 PM 12:00 AM (arrival 3:45 PM)
Graveyard Shift: 12:00 AM 8:00 AM (arrival 11:45 PM)

Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks

License:

Boiler Operator License preferred but not mandatory
Candidates without a license must complete VA Safe Steaming Training upon onboarding

Experience Needed:

Minimum 8 months of recent boiler plant operations experience with:

High-pressure steam boilers
Fire tube and water tube boilers
Multi-fuel systems (natural gas and fuel oil)

Special Skills Needed:

Operation monitoring troubleshooting and repair of:
- High-pressure steam boilers
- Auxiliary systems (pumps compressors burners water treatment RO systems)
- Ability to independently operate boiler plants during Nights Weekends Holidays
Strong knowledge of:
- Combustion theory
- Steam generation
- Water chemistry and treatment
- Electronic and computerized boiler control systems
Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical mechanical and electronic schematics
Proficiency with testing tools (multimeters flow meters pyrometers)
Computer proficiency (MS Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint VISTA)
Strong emergency response and decision-making skills
Must be proficient in written and spoken English

Responsibilities:

Operate and maintain high-pressure boiler plants across three VA divisions
Perform preventive maintenance troubleshooting and operational repairs
Monitor gauges meters alarms and computerized control systems
Test boiler feed water condensate and chemical treatment levels
Ensure compliance with air pollution and environmental regulations
Operate emergency generators during power outages
Serve as Operator-in-Charge during assigned shifts
Respond to emergency calls after hours and initiate corrective actions
Maintain continuous plant coverage - boiler plants must never be left unattended
Implement steam load-shedding plans during emergencies
Maintain a clean safe and compliant work environment
Coordinate with VA leadership AOD nursing supervisors and contractors
Provide first-response actions during facility emergencies
