3 Month Contract With A local Authority
Job Purpose
To support vulnerable households to sustain their tenancies and successfully move on into appropriate long-term accommodation. The postholder will work with individuals and families at risk of homelessness providing tailored housing-related support coordinating multi-agency interventions and promoting independence and stability.
Key Responsibilities
Provide proactive tenancy sustainment support to prevent tenancy breakdown and homelessness.
Assess risks to tenancies including rent arrears anti-social behaviour mental health substance misuse domestic abuse or financial hardship.
Develop and implement personalised support plans with clear outcomes.
Support service users to understand and comply with tenancy conditions.
Work closely with landlords (social and private) to resolve tenancy issues and mediate where necessary.
Support households to move on from temporary accommodation supported housing or emergency placements into suitable long-term housing.
Assist with property viewings sign-ups and move-on arrangements.
Support service users with practical resettlement tasks such as budgeting utilities benefits and setting up a home.
Ensure planned timely move-on to maximise availability of temporary accommodation.
Manage a caseload of clients with complex needs prioritising cases according to risk and vulnerability.
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners including social services health probation DWP voluntary sector organisations and support providers.
Attend case conferences safeguarding meetings and multi-agency panels as required.
Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns for adults and children.
Carry out risk assessments and ensure safe working practices including lone working procedures.
Maintain professional boundaries while delivering a trauma-informed person-centred service.
Maintain accurate timely and confidential case records in line with data protection requirements.
Monitor outcomes and performance targets contributing to service reporting.
Ensure compliance with relevant housing legislation policies and procedures.
Requirements
Experience working in housing homelessness tenancy sustainment or a related support role.
Knowledge of housing legislation homelessness prevention and tenancy management.
Experience working with vulnerable people and those with complex needs.
Ability to assess needs risks and vulnerabilities and develop effective support plans.
Strong communication and negotiation skills including the ability to engage hard-to-reach clients.
Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
Excellent partnership and multi-agency working skills.
Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate case records.
Empathetic resilient and solution-focused approach.
Commitment to equality diversity and inclusive practice.
Ability to work flexibly including occasional outreach or home visits.
Relevant qualification in housing social care or support work (e.g. CIH NVQ or equivalent).
Experience working in homelessness prevention or move-on services.
Knowledge of welfare benefits and budgeting support.
