The HDS-LEE Helmholtz School for Data Science in Life Earth and Energy offers
exciting PhD opportunities for early-career researchers aiming to tackle real-world challenges at the interface of data science and life sciences earth sciences and energy systems. As part of the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) HDS-LEE provides a structured interdisciplinary doctoral program with excellent supervision training and networking opportunities.
Tasks
- Interdisciplinary PhD projects with tandem partners across institutions
- Employment at Forschungszentrum Jülich in close cooperation with RWTH Aachen University Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. or the University of Cologne
- Cutting-edge data science training international networking and access to outstanding research infrastructure
Requirements
- A Masters degree with a strong academic background in
mathematics computer science and earth science/engineering or a
related field - Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python Matlab R C Julia )
- Good analytical skills with a sound understanding of data evaluation
- Good organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Effective communication skills and an interest in contributing to a highly international and interdisciplinary team
- Motivation for academic development supported by bachelors and masters transcripts and two reference letters
- Working proficiency in English for daily communication and professional contexts.(TOEFL or equivalent or exemption required)
- Knowledge of German is beneficial
