JOB BAND: Journalist Band D

CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent / Part-time (14 hours per week)

DEPARTMENT: BBC South News

LOCATION: Southampton

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 27600 - 33000 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As the weekend newsreader you will be preparing and readingbulletins for BBC Radio Solent and ensuring our smartspeakerbulletins are delivered.

Hampshire Dorset and the Isle of Wight is an extremely busy news patch so youll be used to reacting to breaking stories and be able to work with our digital team to ensure your content can reach a wider audience.

As an experienced news reader a great voice is essential as is a passion and a natural flair for storytelling.

  • Youll have good local knowledge or demonstrate an ability to get up to speed very quickly.
  • Youll know how to create engaging and imaginative bulletins with an appropriate balance of stories and treatments.
  • Youll know how to get the best out of interviews and know how to write the engaging top lines.
  • Your bulletins will include a range of diverse opinions and perspectives while meeting high journalistic standards and observing the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
  • Youll have a can-do attitude and a knack for being able to deliver the days news in an accessible and conversational way.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Read weekend news bulletins.
  • Produce news stories for your bulletins and bulletins the following day
  • React to and chase breaking news at the weekend
  • Help set up stories for programmes

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Strong Broadcasting voice
  • Excellent Writing skills across a range of formats
  • Media Law
  • Skilled in Audio editing
  • Ability to create engaging written content for online platforms

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Writing for TV bulletins
  • TV Production
  • Radio Pkge making
