Job Summary

POSITION GOAL:
To provide special education instruction and case management for students receiving services across both a substantially separate therapeutic classroom setting and inclusive general education classroom settings in alignment with the Arlington Public Schools curriculum and Massachusetts standards. This is a long-term substitute position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Teacher of Students with Moderate and/or Severe Disabilities
Masters Degree in Special Education preferred
Two or more years of successful teaching experience in Special Education preferred
Experience working with students in therapeutic and inclusive settings preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for planning instruction and curriculum modifications for students with disabilities that allow students to meet high standards and experience success in both specialized and typical educational settings.
Responsibilities:
  1. Provide direct instruction to students in both substantially separate therapeutic classroom settings and inclusive general education classrooms including co-teaching and collaborative instruction with general education teachers.
  2. Plan implement and modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
  3. Consult and collaborate regularly with general education teachers related service providers and support staff.
  4. Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals within both therapeutic and inclusion settings.
  5. Develop implement and oversee Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) including determining goals and objectives.
  6. Prepare progress reports and required special education documentation.
  7. Organize and chair Team meetings and participate in other required meetings.
  8. Administer assessments for evaluations and end-of-term/end-of-year reporting as needed.
  9. Maintain ongoing communication with families and caregivers.
  10. Attend building-based and learning team meetings.
  11. Direct and collaborate with teaching assistants and paraprofessionals.
  12. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator.
