Why this role matters

As our Principal AI Engineer youll be the leading technical authority within the Data & AI Solutions Team. Youll play a key role in shaping how AI is designed developed and deployed across the organisationensuring solutions are scalable secure responsible and genuinely useful.

Youll mentor and empower a talented team of AI Solution Engineers helping them grow in a supportive collaborative environment. Youll also influence our AI strategy guide innovation and help the organisation adopt modern responsible AI practices.

What youll do

• Lead the technical design build and deployment of new AI solutions ensuring they meet high standards of quality safety and performance.
• Provide technical leadership for innovation and R&D exploring emerging technologies and assessing their value.
• Establish and maintain bestpractice AI engineering standards championing highquality welldocumented and reusable code.
• Partner with teams across the business to create secure scalable AI architectures.
• Guide and mentor a team of highly motivated AI Solution Engineers creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and able to thrive.
• Advise senior leaders on market trends risks and opportunities supporting our Group Data & AI Strategy.
• Promote responsible AI practices including explainability fairness and bias mitigation.

What you bring

• Strong experience designing and delivering AI/ML solutions including LLMs deep learning and wider AI/ML engineering practices.
• Understanding of model evaluation bias considerations and explainable AI.
• Experience in building endtoend AI systemsfrom data pipelines and training to deployment and monitoring.
• Knowledge of multiagent AI frameworks and RAG architectures.
• Familiarity with AI orchestration tools (e.g. LangChain Semantic Kernel) and vector databases (FAISS Chroma Pinecone Weaviate).
• Experience with experiment tracking and model registries (e.g. MLFlow).
• Proficiency with Cloud AI platforms (Azure AI AWS Bedrock GCP Vertex AI Databricks).
• Strong software engineering skills (Python C# or similar) with experience in automated testing and Gitbased collaboration.
• Awareness of cloud security data privacy responsible AI and UK regulatory principles.
