Job Summary

REGIONAL HVAC/R TECHNICIAN

Salary Range:$45 - $65 Hourly

Position Description

Are you a proactive HVAC/R Technician skilled in troubleshooting and working with various commercial HVAC equipment Do you thrive in a collaborative environment and excel at providing outstanding customer service

The R.C. Hedreen Co. is seeking an experienced reliable and team-oriented Regional HVAC/R Technician to join our team. Our Regional HVAC/R Technician serves 4 hotels in Downtown Seattle including the Hyatt Regency Grand Hyatt Hyatt Olive 8 and Renaissance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate maintain troubleshoot repair and install commercial HVAC equipment and components to manufacturers recommendation i.e. compressors valves motors belts bearings filters lubrication etc.
  • Equipment examples: heat pumps central heating plant (utilizing steam and/or hot water for tempering or heating building) central chilled water plant (to provide cooling to building) cooling towers coolers chillers refrigeration units air handlers PTACs split systems chiller packaged units VAV systems duct systems exhaust systems condensers evaporators coils strip heaters boilers thermostats VFDs and hot water systems.
  • Operate computerized controls
  • Maintain documentation for services performed and shop materials used
  • Train other HVAC/R technicians and maintenance staff in preventative maintenance repair and care of commercial HVAC systems
  • Respond to facilities related inquiries and emergencies
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of work and jobsite spaces


Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Experience/Education Requirement:

7 years of experience in the operation maintenance troubleshooting diagnostic and repair of commercial HVAC systems OR 2 years of technical school HVAC coursework in conjunction with 5 years of experience in the operation maintenance troubleshooting diagnostic and repair of commercial HVAC systems.

License Certification and Other Requirements:

City of Seattle Refrigeration Mechanics License class A (required)

(This requires 3 years of experience conducting refrigeration repair and installation as an apprentice to or as a journeyman refrigeration and/or air conditioning mechanic; or 2 years of training in a recognized school of technology plus one year of experience in the refrigeration trade; or 2 years full-time experience in the refrigeration trade and graduation from a recognized trade school of refrigeration technology.)

L06A or EL07 Washington State Electrician Specialty License (required)

  • Minimum requirement of 4000 hours of work experience under the supervision of a journey level electrician to obtain this license.
  • HVAC/refrigeration system (EL06A)
  • Nonresidential maintenance (EL07)

EPA CFC Universal Certificate (required)

Current Washington State drivers licenseor be able to obtain one by the start date (required)

City of Seattle Grade Ill Steam Engineers license (preferred)

(This requires at least 3 years of employment in a position directly responsible for the operation of boilers or educational substitution for experience plus one year of experience.)

Qualified Person under the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS) (required within 1-year of employment)

Under Washingtons Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS) a qualified person is defined in WAC 194-50 as someone who:

  1. Has training expertise and three years of professional experience in building energy-use analysis and
  2. Meets at least one of the following credential criteria:
    a. Is a licensed professional architect or engineer in Washington;
    b. HoldsBuilding Operator Certification (BOC) Level II;
    c. Is a commissioning professional certified by an ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024:2012 accredited organization;
    d. Is aqualified energy auditor (per state definitions) ;
    e. Is aCertified Energy Manager (CEM) in current standing (via Association of Energy Engineers) ;
    f. Is anEnergy Management Professional (EMP) certified by the Energy Management Association (EMA) ;
    g. Has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Sustainable Building Science Technology from South Seattle College (or equivalent approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction).

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • This position requires full-time onsite work.
  • Required to stand walk or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Work in confined spaces or at heights from ladders and scaffolds
  • May require handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
  • Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Must comply with PPE standards and all safety guidelines.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Work shift mostly during regular daytime hours but can include swing or graveyard shifts.
  • May be called after-hours for emergency repairs.

Additional Information

This position is classified as regular Full-Time. It is FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full range for this position is $ 45 - $ 65 per hour.
