Summary/Objective
Assists in the operation and overall appearance of multiple City of Manhattan locations including but not limited to City Hall Peace Memorial Auditorium Douglas Center & Annex Douglass Activity Center Anthony Recreation Center Eisenhower Recreation Center Pavilion City Park Activity Center Roundhouse Municipal Court and other buildings as assigned or Aggieville Garage by performing extensive cleaning and minor maintenance.
Essential Functions
Maintains City of Manhattan facilities throughout the day by daily cleaning upkeep and monitoring.
- Performs custodial duties using appropriate cleaning methods and operate building maintenance equipment such as vacuums buffers scrubbers and floor cleaning machines and uses hand tools and drills to perform minor repair work.
- Performs building maintenance including but not limited to vacuuming mopping cleaning and disinfecting restrooms dusting window cleaning and trash collection.
- Follows policies and procedures involving safety hazards handling of materials and cleaning chemicals and reporting of deficiencies.
- Maintains written log of work completed and material usage.
- Monitors and tracks cleaning and paper supplies and reports supplies and material needs to the Supervisor.
Sets up meetings and gets facilities ready for events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs special projects in consultation with the Supervisor.
- Performs outdoor maintenance and upkeep of sidewalks and entry ways including snow removal and the overall cleanliness of these areas.
- Performs monthly fire extinguisher and AED checks throughout the city facilities.
- May be required to work a varied shift and cover weekend events as needed.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma GED or Equivalent.
- Valid drivers license.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Six (6) months of custodial/building maintenance or similar experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Boot Clothing and Vehicle Allowances if applicable.
- City issued Cell Phone if applicable.
- Retirement/Pension - City employees are required by statute to contribute to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS). Voluntary retirement contributions are offered with Nationwide Mission Square and Empower KPERS 457.

- Paid Holidays 10.5 paid holidays per year plus one additional floating holiday.
