Idaho Power located in Pocatello Idaho is looking for a temporary Utility Laborer to join our Station Apparatus Crew. Its an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Utility Laborer do for us

Assists with maintenance inspections and other manual work on distribution and transmission equipment (such as transformers switches breakers capacitor banks and reactors) at Idaho Power facilities.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Construction methods materials standards and equipment
  • Ohms law basics of the electrical trade and control wiring
  • The purpose of commonly encountered materials parts and equipment used in substation/utility construction or other utility projects

Preferred:

  • Safely load/unload drive and operate bucket oil tanker and boom trucks

Skills in:

  • Basic use of personal computers
  • Use of test equipment and electrical meters
  • Interpersonal communication

Ability to:

  • Perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Learn to read and understand construction prints and specifications
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other members of a work team
  • Maintain neat accurate and legible records
  • Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours
  • Work overtime at the discretion of the supervisor


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • Energy Systems Technology and Education (ESTEC) degree from ISU or another accredited university

OR

  • An equivalent combination of appropriate training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities

Experience:

  • 1 year of general work experience that includes physical labor and utility experience

OR

  • An equivalent combination of appropriate training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities

Preferred:

  • 3 years of general work experience that includes physical labor and utility experience
  • 1 years of general work experience involving electrical work mechanical work and/or utility work

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • Must have a current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or ability to attain within 120 days of hire
  • Capable of acquiring a tanker endorsement


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position performs manual dexterity tasks and repetitive gripping (up to 80 lbs. force) in utilizing hand tools on a frequent basis. This position requires lifting up to 170 lbs. carrying up to 120 lbs. pushing up to 110 lbs. and pulling up to 180 lbs. Crouching bending/stooping and crawling is required occasionally and sometimes in confined spaces. Kneeling is required frequently. Climbing of 24-foot ladders and onto transformers/equipment with fall restraint gear is performed occasionally as well as work from an elevated lift with sustained reaching. Reaching up to shoulder level is performed occasionally and shoulder level/above/overhead occasionally with/without a loaded hot stick Standing/walking is performed frequently and sitting/driving is required up to 7 hours in duration to access job sites. Job sometimes requires working outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation for the DOT medical certificate. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Complete DOT PHMSA 49 CFR Part 172 required hazardous materials employee training if a CDL with attached Hazardous Materials endorsement is required for the position. May be required to complete a field skills assessment at time of interview. Additional safety related training may be required. Projects may include as much as a six-month assignment away from base location. Complete other required Company and safety training. Must abide by Idaho Power Companys safety rules and regulations.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Successful candidate will be required to work non-traditional hours including daytime or evenings weekdays and/or weekends.

Temporary employees are eligible to apply for internal job postings.
