Position Summary
The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images. This role involves preparing and positioning patients operating MRI equipment safely administering contrast media when required and collaborating closely with radiologists and healthcare teams to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic results.
Patient Care
Screen patients for MRI safety contraindications including metallic implants and medical devices
Explain MRI procedures clearly and provide reassurance to patients including those with anxiety or claustrophobia
Monitor patient condition throughout imaging procedures to ensure comfort and safety
Imaging Procedures
Prepare and position patients according to established MRI protocols
Operate MRI scanners to obtain high-quality diagnostic images
Administer IV contrast agents as ordered following safety and infection control guidelines
Adjust imaging parameters to optimize image quality based on anatomy and clinical indications
Safety and Compliance
Enforce strict MRI safety standards to prevent accidents and equipment damage
Adhere to hospital policies regulatory requirements and infection control protocols
Maintain current knowledge of MRI safety physics and biological effects
Collaboration and Documentation
Review images for quality and completeness prior to radiologist interpretation
Accurately document procedures patient information and contrast usage
Communicate effectively with radiologists nurses and other healthcare professionals
Equipment Maintenance
Perform routine quality assurance checks and basic troubleshooting of MRI equipment
Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate service as needed
Education
Graduation from a CAHEA/JRCT-accredited Radiologic Technology program
Certification & Licensure
ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology (required)
ARRT MRI certification preferred or required within a specified timeframe after hire
Current BLS certification
Vermont state licensure where applicable
Experience
Minimum of 1 2 years of MRI or acute care imaging experience preferred
Strong knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
