Job Summary

Overview:

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff the Project Manager will coordinate people and processes to ensure that key projects for the People Operations Cabinet are delivered on time accurately and produce the desired results. This project manager will design launch and implement key initiatives to improve the employee experience across our entire workforce and make the City of Boston a more equitable supportive and competitive employer. The project manager will also support the Director on all ongoing initiatives and operations as needed.

Projects might range from implementing citywide programs to rolling out human-centered workforce policies to updating internal processes and policies to make them more equitable efficient and clear. Essential work activities will include project planning and reporting communications task management administration and other activities related to the design and rollout of new employee-facing programs for the City of Boston.

Responsibilities:

  • The Project Manager will use project management tools to scope lead and ensure the timely delivery of multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment with many partners stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Collaborates effectively and efficiently with a variety of stakeholders within the People Operations Cabinet and the wider organization to build well-structured project plans. Translates organizational and business needs into comprehensive project plans including objectives timelines and milestones.
  • Coordinates and works with other internal departments on project communications or other People Operations-related communications.
  • Identifies and facilitates the coordination of meetings and workshops with key stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
  • Performs change management/communications activities.
  • Manages deliverables and project execution activities from the initiation phase through post-live support including needs assessment build implementation analytics innovation maintenance and enhancements.
  • Administers new programs until they are ready for handoff to other teams.
  • Develops process maps/workflows from conducting current state process analysis to developing redesigned processes.
  • Acts as a liaison between People Operations leadership and other senior executives internally and externally.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to all inquiries.
  • Assists the People Operations leadership with special projects and ongoing operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in project management public or business administration finance or related field required.
  • A Masters degree in business management public administration or a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.
  • Prior experience with Human Resources or Change Management programs or projects preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Dedication to serving the public and City workers passion for learning and a desire to make a difference.
  • Ability to multitask plan establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on details as required by the job.
