Job Summary

Netball Australia (NA) the governing body for Netball in Australia is inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified legal professionals and past players and officials at the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) level or equivalent to join the Netball Australia Tribunal Panel.

About the Tribunal Panel

Members of Netball Australias Tribunal Panel play a vital role in ensuring Netball in Australia is safe fair and inclusive and is recognised for its high standards of professionalism and integrity on and off the court. Tribunal Panel Members are appointed to a Tribunal on an as needs basis to hear and determine matters referred to it in accordance with the NA Tribunal Rules including matters arising under the Netball Integrity Policy Framework ( SSN Competition & Compliance Rules and SSN and Diamonds Collective Player Agreements.

Most hearings are conducted online typically on weeknights outside of normal business hours and may be scheduled at short notice.

Roles available

NA invites applications from:

  1. Legal Professionals experienced solicitors barristers or other senior members of the legal profession or experienced arbitrators; and
  2. Netball Representatives past players or officials that have experience at the Suncorp Super Netball or equivalent competition standard.

Key accountabilities

  • Act in good faith for a proper purpose and independently.
  • Ensure that all matters are handled fairly impartially and consistently in line with the relevant Codes Policies and Regulations of NA and World Netball and principles of procedural fairness.
  • Determine matters based on supporting evidence giving proper consideration to the merits of the case.
  • Conduct matters in a timely confidential and professional manner.
  • Apply procedures that are accessible and responsive to the needs of young and vulnerable persons.
  • Prepare clear reasoned decisions within required timeframes.
  • Identify disclose and appropriately manage actual perceived or potential conflicts of interest.
  • Complete training and briefings as required by NA.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain processes and outcomes clearly.
  • Ability to work collegially with other Tribunal members while exercising independent judgment.
  • Ability to listen carefully to and show respect for others views and opinions.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness.
  • Logical thinking and ability to analyse evidence objectively.
  • Professional and respectful engagement with all participants.
  • Capacity to allocate sufficient time for pre-reading preparation hearings deliberation and decision-writing as appropriate.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and integrity of all Tribunal processes procedures and outcomes.
  • Ability to identify and raise actual perceived or potential conflicts of interest.
  • Flexible availability including on weekends and evenings and willingness to travel if required.

Appointment and term

Appointments are made via a Letter of Appointment for a fixed term (typically 12 months or longer) and may be renewed at NAs discretion.

Successful applicants will be bound by the NA Tribunal Panel Terms of Reference (Appendix D to the NA Tribunal Rules) required to comply with the terms and conditions of their appointment and sign a Deed of Confidentiality.

Successful applications may also be required to hold or be willing to obtain a valid Working With Children Check and National Police Clearance.

  • Successful applicants may be precluded from acting for or representing NA before the NA Tribunal and other matters during the term of their appointment.
