Job Summary

General Purpose

BEDs vision is to make Burlington a Net Zero Energy city by eliminating fossil fuel usage across the electric thermal and ground transportation sectors by strategically electrifying managing demand realizing efficiency gains and expanding local renewable generation while increasing system resilience.

The Temporary Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the Burlington Electric Department (BED)s annual budgeting and monthly financial reporting and forecasting processes.

Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay Grade: $30.00 - $35.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week

Essential Job Functions

  • Support BEDs spreadsheet-based annual operating and capital budgeting process. Coordinate budgeting process and review and consolidate budget submissions.
  • Support BEDs spreadsheet-based monthly reporting and year-end forecasting process.
  • Support financial operational or performance reporting for internal and external needs.
  • Maintain key financial ratios and other performance indicators for the Department.
  • Compile data for BEDs Service Quality & Reliability Performance Monitoring & Reporting Plan.
  • Assist with preparation of schedules and work papers for cost allocation/rate design studies; revenue requirement; and other regulatory filings.
  • Maintain documentation of budgeting reporting and planning policies and procedures.
Non-Essential Job Functions:

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity equity and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Bachelors degree in finance accounting business or other related field.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for a degree requirement on a two-for-one year basis.
  • Relevant budgeting reporting and financial analysis experience preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills and attention to detail required.
  • High proficiency with spreadsheet data and enterprise financial and reporting systems required.
  • Ability to understand principles of fund accounting and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission uniform system of accounts.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to be self-directed organize and prioritize workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
