Responsibilities
- Responsible for scheduling his/her own rotation and is willing to rearrange personal schedule when necessary. Will rotate shifts as required including weekends and holidays.
- Approve all exchanges of shifts.
- Performs a variety of supervisory and administrative duties in the operation of Claiborne Emergency Medical Service.
- Supervises Lieutenants Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians in the daily performance of assigned duties.
- Inspects ambulance and other vehicles for proper stock levels and cleanliness.
- Performs supervisory and training duties to maintain and upgrade skills of EMS employees.
- Responsible for on the scene command of major incidents until relieved by a higher authority. Has the final decision on assignment of EMS assets to specific calls. Monitors system status and call volume for changes necessary to provide effective responses.
- Coordinates unscheduled maintenance of vehicles and related medical equipment.
- Maintains extensive knowledge of the EMS Policy and Procedure/Protocol manual and administrative policy. Aggressively reinforced the implementation of these policies.
- Attends Supervisor/Paramedic meeting scheduled per called and participates in assigned committee functions and special groups.
- Performs on the scene evaluation of employee work performance and identifies area of skill and performance deficits during emergency call situations and with routine station assignments. Monitors new employees progress during probationary period.
- Report all insubordinates or corrective actions that need to be taken to the Director.
- Maintains a log of CTO Sick Late or any other absent time.
- Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner in the community as well as in the workplace.
- Always observes and applies uniform code.
- Keeps work area neat and clean.
- Always drives in a safe manner and wears seatbelt at all times.
- Always holds thoughts and emotions of family members and bystanders in high regard as well as those of the patient and is kind and courteous to patients and their family members.
- Report any mechanical problems promptly to the Director.
- Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude toward co-worker and management.
- Gains confidence from patients visitors and staff members by performing and communicating in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Function in a calm manner during emergency situations.
- Documents and writes using clear and concise information and completes said documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintain good rapport and projects a positive image for the department/service at other medical facilities and with outside agencies (Police Fire 911 etc).
- Perform all duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision. Exercise independent judgment in times of need.
- Demonstrate an ability to independently solve problems in a creative manner. Never make a hasty decision. Analyze all available information.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the growth and development of infant pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients.
- Local travel required.
- Follows policies procedures and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience:
Prior experience as a Paramedic.
Licensure Requirement:
CPR is required and must be maintained. Must be currently licensed as a paramedic with the State of Tennessee. Employee must have a valid drivers license Class D with an F endorsement for up to 14 passenger vehicles OR a Class A B or C with P endorsement for 15 passenger vehicles depending on the driving needs of the facility. Employee must have state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
