We have an exciting permanent full time opportunity for a Risk Specialist based at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) Fitzroy Campus. This is a high-autonomy role that requires a self-directed individual who can implement a given program of work prioritise effectively and handle pressure. The core responsibility is providing specialist advice support and education to St Vincents in enterprise risk compliance and audit specifically acting as the key enterprise risk contact for SVHM.

Crucially applicants must have comprehensive risk management experience including conducting risk assessment reviews and controls assurance backed by 5 years in first or second line risk management. The successful candidate will leverage this essential risk background to uplift the organisations risk maturity foster strong executive engagement lead risk workshops and ensure compliance with the Risk Management Policy ultimately strengthening internal controls.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Risk Culture Uplift: Act as the key enterprise risk contact for SVHM guiding the implementation of SVHAs Risk Management Policy and developing tailored operational tools.

  • Shape Enterprise Risk Strategy: Partner with the Director of Legal and Risk to develop a strategic approach to enterprise risk management. This includes applying knowledge of business strategy to perform risk and control assessment reviews and fostering strong executive support and sponsorship for risk management.

  • Facilitate Dynamic Risk Workshops: Proactively support senior executives and managers by conducting risk workshops to identify assess and strengthen controls ensuring risk practices are embedded into daily business practices.

  • Manage Risk Reporting and Technology: Champion the use of RiskMan within SVHM to manage risks and controls. You will be responsible for preparing crucial risk reports for the SVHM Audit and Risk Committee and the SVHA Board.

  • Develop and Deliver Risk Education: Design and lead risk education and training programs to assist in increasing the organisations overall risk maturity.

  • Coordinate Audit and Compliance: Act as a critical liaison by coordinating and supporting internal and external audit responses in conjunction with the Group Manager Audit and Compliance and support the legislative compliance program.

  • Drive Solution-Focused Improvement: Apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques to various challenges contributing to the continuous improvement of risk system capabilities and operational processes.

Things that work for us:

  • Demonstrated experience in first-line or second-line risk management. You must have comprehensive risk management experience including controls assurance and conducting risk assessment reviews.

  • Strong understanding and experience with the application of ISO 31000:2018.

  • The ability to work autonomously; to take a program of work and implement it while effectively prioritising your workload and meeting deadlines under pressure.

  • Proven experience facilitating dynamic risk workshops and presenting to senior management teams. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports for Boards and management.

  • Experience in uplifting and enhancing risk culture and awareness through education and collaboration while striving for continuous improvement.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills demonstrating strong conceptual skills to shift between operational and strategic issues and create desired outcomes.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business and Risk Management (or equivalent) are required with Risk Manager Accreditation (RIMS RMIA or similar) Actuarial CPA or Chartered Accountant qualified being highly desirable.
