The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is seeking to fill a BilingualMedical Transportation Technician for their Moreno Valley location.


This position involves the transportation of patients supplies and equipment to various locations throughout County of Riverside. Responsibilities may include safely transporting patients to and from mental health services ensuring timely and secure delivery of essential items and maintaining compliance with all applicable safety and confidentiality standards.

English/Spanishbilingual required

Candidates with experience in the following are encouraged to apply:
  • Candidates with experience transporting patients
  • Patient care experience and logistic knowledge of the area we serve (County of Riverside).
  • Candidates should be familiar with using Map App.
  • Candidates should have a basic understanding of the geographical layout of the County of Riverside and its service areas.
  • Driving experience is required.

Additional essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Transport patients supplies and equipment to various locations throughout the county.
  • Safely transport patients to and from mental health services as needed.
  • Ensure timely and secure delivery of essential items.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable safety and confidentiality standards.
A current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification issued by the American Heart Association will be required.

Work schedule:This will be discussed during the interview.
Tentative: Monday through Friday. 7:00 AM To 4:30 PM (9/80 Every other Friday off)

Under general supervision transports or shuttles patients visitors staff and materials to various destinations inside and outside of medical facilities; performs other related duties as required.


The Medical Transportation Technician is the journey-level classification in the Medical Transportation Technician series and reports to a Supervising Medical Transportation Technician. Incumbents perform the full range of duties requiring greater technical knowledge and are responsible for providing non-emergency transportation or shuttle services with relative independence as supervisory guidance is not available when away from medical facilities.


The Medical Transportation Technician is distinguished from the Senior Medical Transportation Technician classification in that the latter functions in a lead capacity.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Transport patients visitors and staff between various service areas; pick up and drop off patients or staff at designated shuttle service areas between various medical office buildings.

Verify patients identification and obtain signature of patient or authorized person to comply with patient health information regulations.

Operate designated County vehicles to provide transportation and shuttle services to patients visitors and staff.

Maintain records concerning transportation services provided and vehicle maintenance needs; ensure vehicles are clean and properly supplied.

Assist patients visitors or staff into and out of the vehicle facility or their homes to ensure they are not injured when entering or leaving the vehicle; some vehicles require the operation of an automated lift to assist wheelchair bound patients and/or mobility-limited patients.

Attend to patients or clients safety and comfort enroute by driving carefully and in accordance with state and local traffic laws ordinances and County policies and procedures.

On-call weekend and evening assignments may be required.

Transport tissue specimens.

Operate a Recreational Vehicle (RV) Mobile Health Unit; participate in the set up and teardown of mobile healthcare sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

OPTION I
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.

Experience: Six months of providing basic patient care.

OPTION II
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.

Experience: Six months of providing transportation and/or support services for a medical health senior citizen social services or similar community agency which must have included the transportation of clients to and from hospitals healthcare facilities or other institutions. (Completion of a recognized training program in basic patient care may substitute for three months of the required experience.)

ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of: The proper body mechanics in lifting and transferring patients; operation and minor maintenance of medical transportation vehicles (i.e. bus and vans); DOT road rules and regulations.

Ability to: Read write and speak the English language; learn medical facility routines and techniques; perform basic patient care; follow oral and written directions; maintain simple records; apply proper body mechanics in lifting moving and assisting patients; apply proper body mechanics in lifting and moving at least 100 pounds; handle patients in a manner which will not aggravate their condition; follow maps and directions; use good judgement when acting independent of supervisory guidance.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Drivers License. A valid Class A or B California Drivers License may be required for some positions.

RUHS Medical Center AssignmentPossession of a valid Commercial Class A or B California Drivers License with an air brakes endorsement is required for incumbents assigned to the Mobile Health Unit and/or any incumbent assigned to drive any vehicle which requires possession of a valid Commercial Class A or B California Drivers License with an air brakes endorsement.

RUHS Medical Center AssignmentPossession of a valid Bloodborne Pathogens Training certificate and Hazard Communication training must be successfully completed within 6 months of hire date and maintained annually. Failure to obtain the required certificate and training will result in new hires being released prior to the end of their probationary period.

Possession of valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificates issued by the American Heart Association.

For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.

Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random reasonable suspicion/cause return-to-duty and post-accident.

This classifications rate of pay will be set in accordance with California Senate Bill 525 requirements for applicable departments.

Bilingual Testing
