Job Summary
Position Description:
CGI is currently seeking multiple Network Engineers to join our growing team in Canberra. This role supports and works closely with our Satcom Engineers as part of our expanding Space Defence & Intelligence (SDI) unit helping deliver secure resilient and high-performing satellite communication capabilities.
CGI is a global leader in mission-critical software systems for the space industry. We work across major European navigation communication and earth-observation programmes and specialise in space security and ground control systems.
Our deep expertise in the space sector combined with our contribution to significant technical advancements has enabled us to support some of the worlds most prestigious space programmes including Cassini-Huygens Galileo Copernicus Inmarsat 4 MSG MTG MTSAT Rosetta Skynet and XMM-Newton. To date our software and systems have supported missions for more than 200 satellites
Your future duties and responsibilities:
As a Network Engineer you will be responsible for the design implementation and maintenance of secure network infrastructure that underpins satellite communication systems. You will work in close collaboration with Satcom Engineers to ensure seamless integration between terrestrial networks and satellite systems within a secure operating environment.
Key responsibilities include:
-Designing configuring and maintaining secure network infrastructure supporting Satcom systems
-Supporting satellite ground systems by integrating IP networks with satellite communication platforms
-Performing network analysis troubleshooting and performance optimisation across Satcom and IT environments
-Collaborating closely with Satcom Engineers system engineers and other cross-functional teams
-Ensuring compliance with Defence and security protocols standards and accreditation requirements
-Assisting with system testing validation and operational readiness activities
-Preparing and maintaining detailed network and system documentation including configurations and procedures
-Supporting incident response fault resolution and continuous improvement initiatives
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
-Minimum of 1 years experience in network engineering or communications environments
-Strong understanding of IP networking routing switching and network security principles
-Exposure to satellite communications environments RF concepts or ground systems (highly desirable)
-Experience working with network hardware virtualised environments and monitoring tools
-Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
-Ability to work effectively within a team-based multidisciplinary environment
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Active security clearance or the ability to obtain one
