A candidate for this rank must have a distinguished record of achievement beyond the assistant professor level.

Job Description:

The University of Florida Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) Service is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Emergency and Critical Care to join a team of 11 board-certified criticalists and 1 residency-trained criticalist. The criticalists work collaboratively with 10 emergency doctors 12 ECC residents 2 specialty ECC interns and 12 rotating interns. As one of the busiest academic hospitals in the country the University of Florida manages approximately 13000 emergency room (ER) cases annually offering a diverse caseload. The service is supported by more than 60 veterinary technicians including veterinary technician specialists in ECC who provide exceptional patient care in the ER ICU and progressive care ward.

This position is part of a progressive collaborative and well-supported ECC service. The primary work location is the VECCS Level I and AAHA-accredited hospital in Gainesville with about 4-5 shifts assigned to the University of Florida PETS hospital in Ocala located approximately 45 minutes south of Gainesville. The ECC service also manages a busy extracorporeal therapy program that includes intermittent hemodialysis CRRT therapeutic plasma exchange and hemoperfusion. Applicants without prior experience in these modalities will have the opportunity to learn and develop these skills. Additionally the hospital is actively working toward becoming an approved VetCOT institution.

Three criticalists are assigned daily to the Gainesville hospital with one dedicated to the emergency room one to the intensive care unit and one to the inpatient hospitalist service supporting collaborative decision-making and fostering a strong teaching environment. Responsibilities include primary patient care and the instruction and supervision of DVM students interns and residents. The service places a strong emphasis on student education and offers three distinct clinical rotations for DVM students: Emergency Medicine at the Ocala location and separate Emergency Room and Critical Care rotations in Gainesville.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop a program of scholarly activity. The distribution of clinical teaching and research responsibilities is negotiable based on the applicants qualifications and interests. This is a non-tenure-accruing position. Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a DVM (or equivalent) and must have completed an approved ACVECC/ECVECC residency in Emergency and Critical Care.
