A vacancy has arisen for a Sqn Ldr (Any Profession) to serve as SO2 Parenting and Wellbeing at HQ Air Cmd RAF High Wycombe on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of being not before 02 March 2026 (or later subject to candidate status). This hybrid working role offers predominately Remote Working opportunities with the incumbent required to undertake local station duties and attend meetings at HQ Air as and when required.
SO2 Parenting and Wellbeing Support will report to SO1 Wellbeing and Resilience within the D People Directorate and is a key appointment within the People & Families Support area of responsibility.
The incumbent will be responsible to:
SO1 Wellbeing & Resilience for developing and implementing the Air policy and casework relating to parenting (maternity paternity breast-feeding adoption surrogacy Shared Parental Leave).
Coordinating on non-clinical gender health and well-being issues such as ACS and menopause.
Assisting the development of and implementing Defence policies that contribute to the RAF Communitys well-being. Deputising for SO1 Wellbeing and Resilience during periods of absence.
The specifics responsibilities are as follows:
Parenting Support
a. Ensure that RAF Parenting Support policy is aligned with the RAF Strategy the RAF Health & Wellbeing Strategy the Armed Forces Families Strategy and their supporting Action Plans.
b. Work in partnership with national / Defence organisations and Station Health & Well-being Cttees to promote good Parenting Support practice (e.g. Health Visitor support Station support networks facilities and services Physical Training) across the RAF.
c. Develop links with the Military Charities and other Third Sector organisations to promote greater awareness of the needs of expectant mothers and new parents cohering the development of support for RAF parents when identified.
d. Support stations Career Management Employment Policy and Line Managers in their management of SP going through their parenting processes providing SME oversight promoting Parenting Support policy and cohering continuous improvement.
e. Act as the Trg Requirements Authority (TRA) for Parenting Support training to prepare individuals and Line Managers for the challenges and responsibilities in this area). Link in with and the Trg Delivery Agents (TDA) including Aviators Command School Intermediate Officer Development and Future Commanders Study Period and Air Media & Comms as required.
Wellbeing Support
a. Represent the RAF in the development implementation and promotion of Defence well-being policies coordinating closely with wellbeing health and related staffs in the Defence People area and sister Services.
b. Ensure that RAF well-being policy is communicated and promoted effectively ensuring alignment with the RAF Strategy the RAF Health & Wellbeing Strategy the Occupational Well-being Survey and their supporting Action Plans.
c. Oversee the activity and outputs of UHWBCs in support of the RAF H&WB Strategy reporting through the RAF Health &Wellbeing Working Group and Steering Group underpinned by health data.
d. Sustain links with the Military Charities and other Third Sector organisations advocating their endorsed well-being training courses and initiatives offered through these organisations to Stn Health and Well-being Cttees.
e. Represent the RAF at events and meetings aligned with RAF Wellbeing activity including the RAF Health and Wellbeing Working Group Defence Health and Wellbeing Comms Working Gp and Defence Health Inequality Health Priority Groups.
f. Oversee the development of internal and external communications for RAF Health and Wellbeing initiatives in line with the RAF Health and Wellbeing Strategy and its supporting Action Plan.
