The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Economics Justice and Policy Studies (EJPS). The Department of EJPS currently offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (BACJ) and a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies as well as minors in Political Science Economics International Business and Economics Finance and Economics and Law and Governance.
Mount Royal University is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Economics to commence July 1 2026. The economics program at MRU is an essential component of our multidisciplinary Policy Studies degree which consists of economics policy and political science. We also offer three economics related minors: economics finance and economics and international business and economics. We are also in the early stages of developing a new Bachelor of Arts in Economics subject to final approval.
The successful candidate will join the Economics Justice and Policy Studies Department at the level of Assistant Professor and will be expected to either have an established research agenda or the ability to immediately develop a research program. Research and service opportunities may include supervision of research assistants or Honours students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six 3-credit hour courses per academic year (typically 3 courses in the fall semester 3 courses in the winter semester). Class sizes typically average between 35-40 students.

The successful candidate is expected to have a completed PhD in economics or a completed PhD near the time of hiring.
As Mount Royal University is a teaching focused institution the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in both micro- and macro-economics. Priority will be given to candidates with an applied research agenda (quantitative or qualitative) and to those with a specialization in political economy. The ability to teach courses in research methods data analytics Canadian public sector economics and courses within our policy studies degree program would be an asset.
