Role Overview The VPA Masker supports aerospace coating operations by performing detailed masking material handling and equipment support tasks in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. This role requires strong attention to detail safety compliance and hands-on mechanical skills.
Key Responsibilities - Perform complex multi-step tasks following detailed procedures and work instructions.
- Maintain accurate digital and handwritten records for all assigned tasks.
- Ensure 100% compliance with PPE requirements; verify PPE functionality before starting work.
- Participate in Continuous Process Excellence initiatives (5S TPM Standard Work Visual Management).
- Operate within a fixed-process environment governed by FAA and AS9100 requirements.
- Identify and communicate non-standard conditions related to EHS or product integrity.
- Follow best practices for handling products and raw materials in a high-vacuum coating environment.
- Complete assigned TPM checklists and equipment support tasks.
- Perform self-inspection of completed work for quality and completeness.
- Support Coater Operators with part loading/unloading and fixture assembly/disassembly.
- Clean and maintain metal coating fixtures by removing residual coatings and contaminants.
- Assist with standard rebuilds and material loading during turnaround activities.
- Maintain punctual and accurate timekeeping per direct labor standards.
Equipment & Process Support Operate and support pre- and post-coating equipment including:
- Abrasive blasting systems
- Parts washers and aqueous cleaning lines
- High-temperature ovens and furnaces
- Material handling equipment
- Surface enhancement equipment
- Masking of critical-to-quality demarcation lines using various maskants
Work Environment & Safety - Exposure to extreme heat sharp objects and moving mechanical parts.
- Possible exposure to respiratory/skin irritants asphyxiation risks fall hazards and electrical hazards.
- PPE machine guarding interlocks and safety training are provided and mandatory.
- Controlled temperature and humidity overall; some tasks may involve wet or humid areas.
- Moderate noise levels; hearing protection required in designated areas.
- EB-PVD Coater emits ionizing radiation; shielding ensures exposure below background levels.
- Radiation monitors (dosimeters) may be required; radiation awareness training is mandatory.
Qualifications - Minimum 2 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Additional relevant education training or certifications may be considered.
Language Skills - Ability to read write and communicate effectively in English.
- Read and interpret safety rules operating instructions and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and maintain records (digital or handwritten).
- Communicate clearly with supervisors engineers and coworkers.
Math & Technical Skills - Perform basic math using decimals fractions and percentages.
- Convert scientific notation to decimal form.
- Convert measurements between English and Metric units.
- Basic understanding of scientific principles (fluid dynamics thermodynamics energy) is a plus.
Reasoning & Behavioral Skills - Apply common-sense reasoning to follow written verbal or diagram-based instructions.
- Solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
- Mechanically inclined and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Adaptable to changes in work scope and procedures.
- Team-oriented mindset when required.
- Forklift and/or crane operation may be required (training provided).
Physical Requirements - Ability to climb stairs multiple times per shift.
- Manual dexterity for assembling small components using hand or pneumatic tools.
- Perform repetitive motions (e.g. wrench turning wire cutting).
- Lift and carry up to 35 lbs (floor to waist waist to shoulder and across shop floor).
- Ability to wear a Supplied-Air Respirator (SAR) when required.
- Vision requirements include close distance peripheral vision depth perception focus adjustment and color vision.
