Position Overview

The Criminal Practice Manager in Alice Springs works closely with the Managing Criminal Lawyer to ensure the effective functioning of administrative services within the Criminal Law Section.

This role is responsible for coordinating supervising and supporting professional administrative staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality efficient and culturally responsive administrative support to criminal lawyers in the Alice Springs office. The position plays a key role in driving consistency efficiency and continuous improvement across administrative systems and processes.

What Youll Be Doing

In this role you will:

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight to the Criminal Law Practice in Central Australia
  • Support mentor and supervise legal and support staff
  • Assist with workload management rostering and practice planning
  • Ensure compliance with professional ethical and organisational standards
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders including the Managing Criminal Lawyer
  • Contribute to service improvement staff wellbeing and culturally safe practice
  • Support outreach and remote service delivery where required

What Were Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Demonstrated leadership or management experience in a legal or justice environment
  • Strong understanding of criminal law practice and court processes
  • Excellent communication organisational and people-management skills
  • A commitment to culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice
  • The ability to work effectively in a high-pressure complex environment
  • An understanding of or willingness to learn about the issues impacting Aboriginal people in the NT
  • Current drivers licence
  • Ability to obtain a Working With Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and clear criminal history check
