Job Summary

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

About the role

The primary purpose of the Physiotherapist role within SWAMS is to work within a multidisciplinary team providing assessments and coordination of physiotherapy programs including their ongoing evaluation to improve or maintain levels of physical function for SWAMS clients particularly those engaged with our Community Services such as our aged care programs.

About you

This role will suit someone who is passionate about improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities. You will have experience within a leadership position and enjoy working daily with a team. You will bring the following experience and qualifications:

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) and must be eligible for full membership of AHPRA and the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA).
  • Clinical practice skills in rehabilitation assessment and intervention.
  • Demonstrated understanding of privacy and confidentiality issues.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated high level of written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage case load and time effectively.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Southwest and Bindjareb (Mandurah) regions.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in providing culturally appropriate support services including case management advocacy and supports to Aboriginal people
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are highly encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative requirements.
