General Summary

Eastern Michigan Universitys (EMU) School of Social Work is now accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This position starts in August 2026. This is a full-time eight-month tenure-track academic appointment. Appointment for this position requires a Ph.D. or DSW in Social Work or a related field (conferred before the beginning of employment) a MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program and 5 years post-MSW social work practice experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach contractual load of undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned by the department or school.
  • Assign and submit grades in accordance with established University schedules.
  • Keep posted office hours during the week which are scheduled at times most beneficial to students.
  • Provide academic advising to students if applicable.
  • Serve on search committees for hiring of new faculty members departmental committees and other service committees across the university.
  • Participate in activities such as student registration orientation convocations and commencements.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled departmental meetings and functions.
  • Provide other support services to the department college and/or university if applicable.
  • Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their respective disciplines.
  • Successful candidates will teach courses in our BSW and MSW programs. The BSW program focuses on generalist practice while the MSW program offers an Integrated Social Work Practice curriculum focused on developing practice competencies with individuals and families. The social work program provides flexible programming with MSW classes scheduled evenings and Saturdays to accommodate student schedules while undergraduate courses have both day and evening scheduling.
  • In addition to teaching in-person courses ideal candidates should have an interest in developing and/or implementing hybrid and online learning courses. We seek candidates who have practice experience and scholarly expertise relevant to the needs of culturally diverse populations and who demonstrate a commitment to social justice.
  • Candidates will have responsibilities for teaching scholarship and service within the School of Social Work the College the University and the larger community.
  • Perform related Departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
