Job Summary

Position summary:

The Research and Development Fellow supports the work of MoMAs Research & Development (R&D) a department that connects the Museums mission with broader cultural and social issues. R&Ds primary platform is the MoMA R&D Salons a series of public programs examining the Museums role as an R&D center for society.

Working closely with the Director of R&D the R&D Fellow supports the shaping and implementation of the departments initiatives through research content development and cross-departmental collaboration. The role also coordinates the planning and execution of the R&D Salons and related programs and maintains the departments digital presence.

This is a two-year fellowship expected to commence in March 2026 and conclude March 2028.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of themes research frameworks and content for the MoMA R&D Salons and other departmental initiatives.
  • Conducts research on topics individuals organizations and technologies relevant to MoMA R&D and tracks trends in arts culture and technology.
  • Contacts and engages with speakers and video makers for the MoMA R&D Salons through planning execution and follow-up.
  • Maintains a database of potential speakers and video makers.
  • Drafts and edits program materials internal briefs and content for the R&D website and related digital platforms.
  • Coordinates scheduling speaker coordination AV and technical needs documentation rehearsal processes and on-site event flow.
  • Arranges travel accommodations and hospitality as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison with curatorial departments IT Marketing and Communications External Affairs Membership and other areas of the Museum.
  • Identifies opportunities for integration of R&D content across exhibitions programs and digital platforms.
  • Maintains and updates the R&D website coordinating publishing schedules and digital materials.
  • Documents program activities and assists in preparing reports and presentations as needed.
  • Provides administrative coordination as required to support departmental operations including scheduling budgeting correspondence and payment processing.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree in communications journalism design criticism arts administration arts management or a related field.
  • Strong research writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse contributors and Museum departments.
  • Familiarity with contemporary media and digital publishing tools.
  • Experience with public program production and an understanding of AV technical needs and event workflows preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities with comfort managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace Microsoft Office Mac Keynote and basic Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with self-direction.
  • Proficient knowledge of basic office procedures software and skills.
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Reports to: Director Research & Development

Salary: $54000 per annum plus benefits.
