Lake Norman Charter is thrilled to announce that our brand-new Lake Norman Charter Elementary School West campus will open its doors in August 2026! We are seeking qualified EC Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. This application is for positions at both LNC ES East campus and LNC ES West campus.

Exceptional Childrens (EC) Teacher

Position Type: Full-Time 10-month

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Location: Lake Norman Charter ES (East and West): Huntersville NC

Reports to: Building Principal

Purpose: Lake Norman Charter (LNC) is a K-12 public charter school that provides a rigorous and comprehensive educational environment to develop students with a focus on college readiness leadership and social responsibility.

Teachers at LNC play a vital role in fostering a culture of partnership trust safety and pride shared by students families staff and community. They provide engaging instruction that empowers each student to achieve their full academic potential while nurturing personal growth through leadership service and extracurricular opportunities. Grounded in LNCs commitment to diversity inclusivity and responsible citizenship teachers model honor and high expectations as they intentionally cultivate durable skillscommunication critical thinking and adaptabilitythat prepare students to lead contribute and thrive in a complex and ever-evolving world.

Additionally as a member of the Exceptional Childrens department the EC teachers goal is to provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings.

Exceptional Children (EC) - ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements the Individual Education Program (IEP) for students with disabilities; uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
  • Develops lesson plans adapts materials and designs activities to assist EC students in developing appropriate academic behavioral and social skills to progress with meeting their IEP goals.
  • Acts as the case manager for assigned students; collaborates with regular education teachers service providers and parents to better understand and meet student needs.
  • Maintains student records under North Carolinas Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities and complies with state and federal education statutes.
  • Incorporates a wide range of co-teaching approaches specifically geared towards but not limited to the team teaching model.
  • Proficient in the use of NC ECATS (Every Child Accountability and Tracking System).
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

LNC Teaching Staff - ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plans prepares and delivers engaging student-centered lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
    Differentiates instruction to meet diverse academic and developmental needs.
  • Integrates leadership service and character education into classroom instruction.
  • Assesses and monitors student learning using a variety of formative and summative methods.
  • Provides timely constructive feedback to students and communicates progress regularly with parents and guardians.

Student Support and Supervision

  • Promotes the safety well-being and personal growth of all students.
  • Implements effective classroom management practices and positive behavior supports to proactively support student behavior and engagement.
  • Provides academic and social-emotional guidance to students and families as appropriate.
  • Ensures the safety of students through supervision at all times including in the classroom and during non-classroom times (e.g. carpool assemblies lunch field trips).

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues administrators and support staff to promote student learning and school improvement.
  • Participates actively in professional development (PD) and training courses faculty meetings and action research activities.
  • Engages in reflective practice and peer collaboration to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Contributes to curriculum development and assessment design as part of the schools continuous improvement efforts.

Professional Practice and Ethics

  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to district guidelines with regard to student information and school records.
  • Responds effectively in adapting to changing needs schedules or school initiatives.
  • Supports and models the values and expectations of Lake Norman Charter in all professional interactions.

School Culture and Leadership

  • Builds and fosters an inclusive respectful and collaborative classroom environment that reflects LNCs commitment to leadership and service.
  • Participates in school events extracurricular activities and community initiatives when appropriate.
  • Adopts and contributes to the implementation of the school strategic development plan.
  • Serves as a positive role model and advocate for students and the school community.

Technology and Digital Citizenship

  • Integrates instructional technology and digital resources to enhance learning maintain accurate records and support students toward responsible digital citizenship in an evolving world.
  • Applies AI tools responsibly to enhance instruction streamline administrative tasks and support student learning while exercising professional judgment to ensure accuracy equity and privacy.

Other Responsibilities

  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the building principal or other designated administrative staff

EDUCATION CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree in Education or related field required
  • NC DPI Licensure in Special Education required
  • Previous successful teaching experience preferred
