Job Summary:
The Outpatient Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy services to patients in an outpatient clinic setting. This role involves assisting patients with neurological and orthopedic conditions utilizing various assessment and documentation skills and collaborating with the healthcare team to implement treatment plans.

Responsibilities:
- Implement treatment plans for patients with neurological and orthopedic conditions.
- Utilize adaptive and assistive devices to aid patient mobility and function.
- Assess patients AROM/AAROM/PROM body mechanics and environmental barriers.
- Perform pain assessments sensory response evaluations skin integrity checks and strength testing.
- Monitor and record vital signs.
- Document patient progress including discharge summaries evaluations long-term goals plans of care reassessments RUG levels and short-term goals.
- Manage time effectively to ensure efficient patient care.
- Provide gait training and extremity mobilization.
- Apply myofascial release techniques and taping as needed.
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs.
- Assist with lifting and transfers.
- Schedule appointments and handle telephone calls.
- Identify and report signs and symptoms of physical sexual or psychological abuse.
- Ensure accurate ****ing documentation for commercial Medicaid Medicare A/B private pay and workers compensation.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
- BLS certification.
- Active Illinois state PTA license.
- Experience with Neurology and Orthopedics.
- Experience in an Outpatient Clinic setting.
- Proficiency in assessment skills: Adaptive Devices AROM/AAROM/PROM Assistive Devices Body Mechanics Identifying Environmental Barriers Pain assessment Sensory response Skin integrity Strength testing Vital Signs.
- Proficiency in documentation skills: Discharge Evaluation Long Term Goals Plan of Care Reassessments RUG Levels Short Term Goals Time Management.
- Experience with orthopedic cases: Ankle Sprains Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) Elbow injuries/tendinopathy Extremity Mobilization Frozen shoulder Gait training Hip fractures/injuries Knee injuries/tendinopathy Low back pain Myofascial Release Osteoarthritis Post op cervical surgery Post op shoulder repair Post op spinal surgery Spinal Conditions Taping Total hip replacement Total knee replacement.
- Experience with neurologic cases: Post Stroke Rehabilitation.
- Professional skills: Home Exercise Program Lifting and transfers Patient family education Scheduling appointments Signs & Symptoms physical sexual psychological abuse Telephone calls.
- ****ing skills: Commercial Medicaid Medicare A Medicare B Private Pay Workers Compensation.
- Age-specific competencies: Middle Adult and Older Adult.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- EMR experience.
- WebPT EHR experience.
Special Considerations:
- The facility is an Acute Care Hospital and Level II Trauma center with 372 staffed beds.
Scheduling:
- 5x8 Days (0800-1700) open to 4x10s as well.
- Schedule is M-F blocked.
- No weekend requirements.
- No on-call requirements.
- Clinician will not float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without paying for the cancelled hours.
- Parking permit required no cost.
