A Day in the Life of an Engineer
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You support an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients to develop feasibility studies concept plans and construction documents to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
Your job can sometimes be challenging but you get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.
We are targeting a salary range of $77000 to $87000 for this position.
Qualifications of an Engineer:
- Bachelors or masters degree in transportation or civil engineering or a related field
- Fundamentals of Engineering Certification (FE)
- Experience with or ability to quickly learn Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD)
- Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Specific knowledge of roadway geometric design or streetscape design
- Having a strong interest in multimodal and active transportation design is preferred
It would be a plus if you have any of the following:
- Familiarity with design software (Civil 3D GEOPAK or InRoads)
- Prior experience at a consulting firm public entity non-profit or higher learning institution
- A broad knowledge base in street design and urban multimodal planning
- Proficiency using Excel for data analysis
- Experience conducting public outreach and engagement
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and multi-phased projects

Work Schedule for an Engineer
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2 days per week. The Seattle office of Toole Design is conveniently located in the heart of Seattles Business District blocks from the Pike Place Market Seattle Art Museum Central Public Library and Waterfront. The office is easily accessed on foot by bicycle and via transit or ferry. RapidRide lines C D and E stop right in front and multiple Sound Transit light rail and Sounder Commuter rail lines are a short walk to the office. Bike lanes are close by on 2nd and 4th avenues.
