Job Summary

General Summary of Position:

The Department of Economics in the College of Fine Arts Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor beginning Fall 2026.

This is a renewable appointment with the possibility of promotion to Associate Teaching Professor after six consecutive years of excellent performance. Associate Teaching Professors may in turn be promoted to Full Teaching Professor following six years of outstanding performance at the associate level.

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will provide high-quality teaching and service in support of the departments undergraduate programs and its growing number of majors. The teaching load is three courses per semester. This position does not include a research expectation.

Teaching responsibilities will include delivering undergraduate courses primarily Principles of Microeconomics Principles of Macroeconomics and Statistics. Candidates with the ability to teach electives in Public Economics Industrial Organization or Resource Economics are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute substantially to the Departments service activities. Examples of such service include advising undergraduate students organizing enrichment and experiential activities for current majors engaging in outreach both within and beyond the University (such as coordinating events engaging with high schools and community colleges and developing partnerships with community organizations).

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Doctoral degree in Economics at the time of application.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level.
  • Record of service to academic programs student organizations or community partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching introductory courses in Microeconomics Macroeconomics and/or Statistics.
  • Experience developing innovative or applied courses (e.g. electives in Public Economics Industrial Organization or Resource Economics).

About the University and Department:

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a highly ranked R1 research university located about 25 miles northwest of Boston. The Department of Economics is part of the College of Fine Arts Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) and currently has ten full-time faculty members.

The Department offers a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Quantitative Economics preparing students for careers in business public policy and data analytics. Faculty are committed to fostering inclusion and success for traditionally underrepresented groups in the field of Economics.

This is a full-time benefited Massachusetts Society of Professors/MTA/NEA union salary range of $75000 - $97000 based on Assistant Teaching Prof. rank and qualifications.
