Electrical Design Engineer

AECOM Buildings Place is seeking a motivated and skilled Electrical Design Engineer to help lead buildings projects (commercial institutional light industrial facilities such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of Ottawa office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth. This position is for a newly created position.

AECOM Buildings Places Canada (BP Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture all the buildings engineering disciplines landscape architecture urban planning urban design economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include although not limited to: Municipal Commercial Institutional projects Justice Education and Government.  

Major Responsibilities: 

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Developing various types of reports including schematic design design development building assessment and design build/assist scope of work documents
• Preparing electrical drawings and specifications
• Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting power fire alarm and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecom. intrusion control security CCTV door access controls etc.)
• Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
• Conduct necessary research to gather industry field and project specific data
• Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards.
• Working with prime consultants engineering consultants and contractors; responding to technical queries
• Construction administration responsibilities:
  • Attending site meetings and site reviews complete with reports
  • Shop drawing reviews
  • SI and CCN preparations.
  • Contractors change quotation reviews
  • Progress billing reviews
  • Fire alarm verification report reviews
• Able to work tight schedules control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same
• Sound judgment supported by excellent technical analytical and problem-solving skills
• Well organized self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for the position candidates must possess at a very minimum: 

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering
• Two (2) years of experience in the engineering consulting industry in a building engineering group
• Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance

Preferred Requirements: 

• Prefer an individual with five (5) with extensive electrical design experience on transportation-related buildings and facilities such as subway stations.
• Experience with Electrical load calculations lighting design and analysis a plus
• Familiarity with OESCOBC IEEE NFPA and other industry standards and codes
• Experience in designing electrical power and lighting systems
• Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP
• Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations spreadsheets and report writing
• Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department
• Analytical technical and problem-solving skills and abilities
• Ability to communicate coordinate and work well with others both internally and externally
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality
• Self-motivated and proactive
• Analytical resourceful and detailed oriented
• A good team player and decision maker.
• Valid drivers license
• Additional certifications such as LEED LC CEM RCDD etc. are a bonus
• Communications system design experience is a plus
• Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable
• Some Project Management experience and training desired
