Job Description
The Environmental Inspector under the direction of the Environmental Compliance Officer isresponsible for inspection and documentation that construction works are undertaken in compliancewith the Environmental Management System (EMS) Environmental Management Plans and applicablelaw. As an Environmental Inspector your experience and judgment represent an important and
necessary element in ensuring environmental performance for the project. Your work will be performedon active construction sites in and around large and small machinery. Your unique position on theenvironmental team means that working collaboratively with construction office and client persons and possessing knowledge with environmental protection measures and typical construction activities willbe required.
Work with Construction Team staff to ensure that identified environmental issues areaddressed promptly and environmental requirements are being met.
Complete monitoring and inspection reports and upload them to the appropriate storagelocation.
Determine the nature of environmental deficiencies and provide recommended actions toensure compliance and prevent or mitigate potential environmental impacts.
Promptly provide advice and recommendations as required for improving environmentalprotection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or issues of non-compliance.
Investigate environmental incidents and public complaints related to environmental matters and effectively report findings and recommendations.
Effectively communicate and share information with various TGP Teams.
Attend weekly and monthly meetings with the Environmental Design and Construction Teams.
Support environmental third-party vendors at the project site as needed.
Supervision coordination and reporting of spills and remedial activities.
Provide Environmental Awareness and Orientation Training through on-site toolbox talks andprocedure rollouts and advise project team members in support of environmental compliancerequirements.
Promote environmental awareness of the EMS and DMCA environmental requirements.
Support on occasion limited night or weekend works as may be required from time to time.
Support the development of the monthly Environmental Report; Works Report; Groundwater &Dewatering Report; and the Site-Specific Dewatering and Discharge Plan.
Support the development of the presentation materials for the bi-weekly Environmental WorkGroup meetings including presenting materials as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies
A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated working experience in all aspects ofenvironmental monitoring / mitigation during transportation project construction specificallywith respect to work in and around watercourses and in the application and correction oferosion and sedimentation control measures reporting Spills and the containment of effluentand dust during construction and with projects in the Province of Ontario of a similar scopeand complexity to this Project.
Hold certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CANCISEC) or have proven proficiency in observing inspecting and reporting on theimplementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
The ability to liaise with specialty consultants contractors and Governmental Authoritiesdemonstrating strong communication skills and confidence interacting with key contacts inverbal written and electronic form.
Capable of preparing technical presentation and reports which assimilate a range of data andinformation sources in a clear and logical manner
Strong organizational and planning skills detail oriented superior analytical and written skills.
Able to integrate past experiences and lessons learned to new situations.
Willingness to work on a construction site environment in all seasons and weather as well asthe ability to use stairs ladders and climb over rough terrain.
Willingness to contribute actively in a team environment.
