Job Summary

As a School Janitor with The Menta Education Group you will assist the Maintenance Supervisor and School Administration in ensuring the cleanliness safety and functionality of Menta properties.

Responsibilities

    • Perform routine daily cleaning of school surfaces including floors doors bathrooms (toilets sinks surfaces) desks tables chairs counters kitchen and common areas etc.
    • Work with student(s) in a work-mentor role teaching them the janitorial trade
    • Refill soap and paper towels in bathrooms and designated areas
    • Empty trash receptacles
    • Keep trash receptacle area outside of the building trash-free
    • Mop floors
    • Clean entryways/seating areas
    • Dust/Wipe fixtures and surfaces including light fixtures and switch plates
    • Report any unusual incidents or safety concerns to the Building Administrator and Maintenance Supervisor.
    • Conduct routine scheduled inspections of premises and equipment.
    • Report need for basic repairs and maintenance to appropriate staff

Qualifications

    • 1 to 5 years of experience
    • Must have valid drivers license with good driving record
    • Engage in physical manual labor
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds
    • Flexibility to schedule and work hours as needed
    • Willingness to travel to school locations if needed

Menta Academy Dekalb 912 is a collaboration with Dekalb Community School District 428 andlike other Menta programs utilizes a unique curricular framework that relies on the Expanded Menta Method and Trauma Informed Practices as the foundational principles for the teaching counseling and mentoring work done by our highly trained staff. Every aspect of the framework supports students with attainment of graduate competencies.

Our curriculum is personalized to meet the needs of each student with technology and skilled teachers creating a dynamic learning environment. At Mentas Academy Dekalb our unique learning spaces combine traditional teaching with cutting-edge technology and innovation. These flexible spaces support inquiry-based and project-based learning designed to prepare students for real-world work environment. Menta Academy Dekalb Transition program readies students for their desired post-secondary opportunity including college technical schools trades military or gainful employment. It emphasizes the language and expectations of the workplace and offers job development and placement services in entry-level positions.
