Job Summary:
The Inpatient Registered Nurse directs and provides professional nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process of assessment planning implementation and evaluation to direct or provide nursing care. The Registered Nurse provides guidance to other members of the surgical nursing unit; and may be authorized in the absence of the Charge Nurse to make decisions affecting the nursing addition the Registered Nurse will perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
-.8 FTE - 32 Hours per Week
- Day/PM Shift
-Every 3rd weekend day shift rotation & Holiday rotation
Essential Functions:
Assessment:
Completes a thorough assessment of patients as well as surgical specific assessment based on need and utilizes critical thinking skills to direct appropriate care and treatments. Reassesses patients at appropriate intervals to ensure desired outcome is achieved
Completes and documents assessments in a thorough and accurate manner as defined by unit policy
Assesses the need for patient and family instruction and provides necessary education
Planning:
Initiates develops and documents the patient plan of care based on patient assessment and surgical diagnosis/procedure. Individualizes the patient plan of care as necessary and evaluates and adjusts for realistic outcome dates
Interacts with other disciplines as needed to determine plan of care and to create a discharge plan
Reviews and updates plan of care minimally every 24 hours
Implementation:
Provides safe and comprehensive nursing care according to state regulations hospital policy and procedure and Joint Commission standards
Establish care priorities based on patient problems; communicate with staff and new employees of patient problems/concerns/changes in condition. Notify physician promptly regarding concerns
Must be proficient in medication administration including IV therapy as evidenced by lack of medication errors as well as reports medication errors
Performs procedures accurately completely and safely according to established policy and procedure and physician orders
Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely manner
Maintains a safe environment for patients uses safety precautions appropriately
Follows Universal Precautions asepsis and infection control procedures
Complies with HIPPA Privacy laws
Professional Requirements
Model professional behavior in accordance with the OLSH and Second Floor Codes of Conduct and Standards of Performance
Support and facilitate OLSH and Second Floor initiatives enhancing patient satisfaction
Communicate effectively professionally accurately and timely with all staff and patients
Demonstrate flexibility with scheduling and staffing the Second Floor for optimal performance and productivity according to patient census and acuity
Consistently demonstrate commitment to team work by actively participating in process improvement patient satisfaction unit and committee meetings daily routines patient care and unit activities
Qualifications Knowledge & Ability:
Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing
Current licensure in the State of Wisconsin
BLS certification is required upon hire
Must be able to achieve ACLS and PALS certification within six months of hire
Ability to relate and work effectively with others
Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care as well as basic computer skills to meet documentation standards
Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
Prefer 2 year minimum experience in a hospital medical/surgical setting
Previous recovery room ambulatory care critical care or general nursing experience is preferred
Is aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with them
