Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin (CMHA Peel Dufferin) is pleased to partner with various agencies in the Peel Region to offer services to the local community at the *new* Brampton based Homeless and Addictions Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub.

HART Hubs are community-based care hubs designed to address mental health addiction and housing needs for people experiencing homelessness. They provide integrated care offering a wide range of services such as primary care mental health services addiction care and employment supports. With targeted community outreach and rapid referral pathways HART Hubs aim to support individuals with complex needs helping them recover achieve housing stability and inclusion.

What We Offer

As a community-based agency were dedicated to the mental physical and social health of everyone including our team members.

We are currently seeking a part-time Psychiatrist (external independent contractor) to join our Homeless and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub Brampton for a one (1) year contract. As part of the HART Hub Brampton the Psychiatrist will provide consultation to the multi-disciplinary team attend weekly clinics and contribute to the development of interdisciplinary treatment plans.

The Psychiatrist will provide three (3) days of service including two days of clinic seeing clients directly and billing OHIP and one day of consultation and team meetings which will be paid at salary (0.2 FTE). Clinic days and team meetings will be on site. Note this posting is for an active vacancy.

What You Will Do:

  • Attend client visitation clinics in-person two (2) days per week at the HART Hub Brampton and one (1) day per week of team meeting and consultation. Schedule to be determined in consultation with the successful candidate. As this program is a new initiative the psychiatrist will be required to attend on site but options for hybrid work can be explored in the future.
  • Develop interdisciplinary treatment plans for clients in collaboration with client family and treatment team members; monitor and revise plans as appropriate during the course of the treatment.
  • Provide timely clinical notes for all consultation and follow-up sessions
  • Maintain communication with the HART Hub Brampton multidisciplinary team between site visits on issues requiring attention that is more urgent.
  • Help to coordinate successful transitions to primary care and/or community psychiatrists for ongoing care.
  • Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices current research policies and procedures.
  • Proficient with the use of various software applications and data entry



What You Need to Join our Team:

  • A Medical Degree (M.D.) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCP)
  • Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required along with member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent malpractice coverage
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse and marginalized populations.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care
  • A demonstrated ability to apply the cultural formulation to assessment and diagnosis
  • Have experience in working with individuals impacted by mental illness addiction and substance use and homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team and evidence of an understanding of the importance of partnerships and collaboration
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work with diverse groups as well as an understanding of social determinants of health and impact on vulnerable communities
  • Skilled at engaging in matters that require sensitivity and empathy across a diverse community excellent judgement and discretion; ability to operate in a culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive framework
  • Working knowledge and/or an understanding of various disciplines; including but not exclusive of mental health substance abuse harm reduction newcomer challenges and barriers faced by those in marginalized populations.
  • Fluency in a language reflecting the diversity of the Peel-Dufferin region including French is a definite asset
  • Valid drivers license automobile in good repair and insurance coverage as required by organizational policy
  • Satisfactory police records search and vulnerable sector screening
  • Required immunization(s) and/or administered vaccine(s) as per CMHA Peel Dufferins Immunization Program Policy
