Trauma Data Specialist
Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Trauma Data Specialist to join the Trauma Program team. We are a level one adult and level 2 pediatric trauma center verified by the American College of Surgeons. The Trauma Data Specialist is responsible for clinical data abstraction and coding for our trauma database. We are looking for someone with strengths in time management detail focused and organized. This role has the option to be a hybrid or remote position.

The posted compensation range of $22.02 - $33.03 per hour/annuallyis a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay Nebraska Medicine in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job based on the circumstances at the time of compensation for this particular role will be determined at the time of offer based on years of relevant experience

Duties: Trauma Data Specialist
Supports our Trauma Program by accurately abstracting coding and reporting trauma data in compliance with state national and American College of Surgeons standards. Key responsibilities include: analyze medical records code clinical and follow-up data using AIS ICD-10 and registry guidelines with 95% accuracy participate in quality assurance activities and maintain compliance with ACS verification standards and ensure timely chart closure within 60 days of discharge to meet productivity benchmarks.
Required Qualifications: Trauma Data Specialist
- Minimum of two years experience in a health-related field involving data collection analysis reporting and quality review required.
- High school education or equivalent required.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification or Associates degree in a health-related field required.
- Completion of a medical terminology course required.
- Strong computer skills including database management Microsoft Office applications and basic statistical knowledge required.
- Ability to learn and operate specialized software programs required.
- Proficient in PC-based applications such as spreadsheets databases word processing and email required.
- Demonstrated ability to organize process and analyze large volumes of clinical data and communicate findings clearly and concisely required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively required.
- High attention to detail required.
- General proficiency with audiovisual office and telecommunications equipment required.
- Successful completion of an approved AAAM Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course within one year of hire required.
- Completion of an approved trauma registry course within one year of hire required.
- Completion of an approved ICD-10 course or ICD-10 refresher every five years required.
Preferred Qualifications: Trauma Data Specialist
- Experience with trauma registry or other healthcare-related registries preferred.
- Strong independent problem-solving skills and ability to work self-directed preferred.
- Proven ability to organize and execute work effectively under frequent deadlines preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred.
- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding preferred.
