As a Sanitarian 5 you will serve as a supervisor and program leader overseeing statewide environmental health efforts in institutions such as nursing homes hospitals daycares schools and correctional facilities. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful statewide impact work collaboratively with multiple agencies and support the development and consistency of public health programs. This position requires routine statewide duties including fieldwork inspections investigations or direct services that extend beyond the employees domicile parish and may require frequent travel. Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following:
Four years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus three years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and inspection forms to ensure uniform inspections of institutional and infectious waste facilities and vehicles statewide.
- Train and supervise sanitarians on reviewing plans conducting preliminary and final inspections performing complaint investigations and ensuring compliance with the Louisiana State Sanitary Code.
- Audit parishes and monitor staff performance providing guidance feedback and conducting fair and timely performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement a statewide institutional facility training program and serve as a liaison with the Department of Children and Family Services Health Standards Section and the State Fire Marshals Office.
- Serve as a regulatory officer by overseeing compliance orders implementing follow-up actions and assisting with suspension or revocation of facility permits as well as tracking administrative proceedings.
- Assist with additional public health programs as needed including Vector Control and Onsite Sewage Waste (OSWW) programs.
