Position Summary
The Marketing & Communications Specialist plays a key role in delivering Discover Saskatoons marketing and communications initiatives across digital traditional and earned channels.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications this in-office role connects strategy to execution by coordinating campaigns developing content and producing materials that reflect a consistent compelling brand voice. The Specialist supports the Digital Marketing Manager with campaign execution performance tracking and ongoing content updates while using strong foundational graphic design skills to create on-brand visuals that enhance storytelling and stakeholder engagement.

Skillset
Campaign Coordination & Execution

  • Campaign Management: Coordinate integrated marketing campaigns across digital traditional paid owned and earned channels ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Internal Collaboration: Works with membership business development and leadership teams to support unified communications and storytelling.
  • Cross-Functional External Collaboration: Work closely with agencies internal departments and external partners to manage timelines deliverables creative briefs and execution schedules.
  • Digital Support: Support the Digital Marketing Manager with campaign setup tracking asset delivery and reporting across digital platforms.
  • Website Content Support: Maintain the accuracy of web content by coordinating updates and ensuring that information remains current relevant and aligned with active campaigns.
  • Marketing Operations: Maintain campaign calendars message maps and asset libraries to ensure a consistent organized and accessible workflow.
  • Event Initiatives: Supports event promotion onsite materials signage coordination and post-event reporting.
Graphic Design & Content Production

  • Design & Brand Development: Create high-quality on-brand visuals for digital print and environmental applications using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Creative Asset Production: Produce social graphics web images presentations ads event materials and reports that reinforce Discover Saskatoons brand identity.
  • Accessibility & Consistency: Ensure all visual assets meet accessibility standards and maintain brand consistency across channels and audiences.
Communications & Writing
  • Content Development: Write and edit engaging content for newsletters website updates press materials social media and stakeholder communications.
  • Messaging Alignment: Collaborate with the Earned Media & PR Manager and the Content & Social Media Specialist to ensure unified messaging across all public-facing channels.
  • Tone & Voice Stewardship: Ensure all written communication reflects Discover Saskatoons brand voice values and strategic priorities.
Stakeholder Support & Reporting
  • Stakeholder Communication: Support membership and partner engagement efforts in collaboration with the Membership Manager ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Reporting & Insight Generation: Assist in preparing campaign performance summaries engagement reports and analytics dashboards to support internal decision-making.
  • Presentation Support: Prepare professional presentations and materials for leadership partners and external stakeholders.
Digital and Website Support
  • Website Maintenance: Update and maintain website content including seasonal pages event listings partner information and other routine CMS updates.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor the website for issues such as broken links 404 errors outdated content and basic accessibility or formatting fixes; action updates or flag for support.
  • Digital Performance Support: Assist the Digital Marketing Manager with analytics SEO-friendly content updates and digital tasks that support overall campaign and website performance.
Measurement & Reporting
  • Performance Tracking: Track analyze and report metrics campaign outcomes and engagement indicators using digital analytics tools.
  • Insight Development: Use data to inform recommendations support optimization efforts and guide continuous improvement in campaign execution.
  • Trend Monitoring: Stay informed of marketing trends and best practices to support innovation and relevance in all campaigns.
Operational Support
  • Visitor Experience: Serve as the primary backup for the Operations and Visitor Experience Coordinator by providing basic guest greeting visitor support and minimum visitor centre coverage when needed.

Key Indicators
  • Campaign Execution & Timeliness: Delivers assigned campaign assets content pieces and creative materials on schedule maintaining consistent adherence to project timelines and internal approval processes.
  • Brand Consistency & Quality Control: Compliant with Discover Saskatoons brand guidelines across digital print and stakeholder materials as evaluated through internal reviews and campaign audits.
  • Creative Production Performance: Produces high-quality design and content assets that meet project briefs requiring no major revisions upon first review.
  • Content & Communication Delivery: Completes all assigned newsletters website updates and stakeholder communications within established timelines and accuracy standards ensuring alignment with organizational messaging and tone.
  • Digital Engagement Contribution: Demonstrates measurable impact through content that contributes to improved engagement metrics (reach impressions click-through rates time on page) supporting the performance targets set in the annual business plan.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Provides timely reliable support to internal teams and agency partners ensuring 100% of hand-offs shared documents and collaborative deliverables are completed on time and in alignment with campaign goals.
  • Reporting & Data Accuracy: Delivers campaign performance summaries with 95% accuracy incorporating insights that help guide continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.
Toolset
  • Design & Creative Platforms: Proficient in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator InDesign Photoshop) for creating branded digital and print materials.
  • Digital Marketing Tools: Experience with social and digital platforms including Meta Business Suite Google Ads and analytics dashboards.
  • Content & Communications Tools: Skilled in using email marketing and communication platforms such as Mailchimp Constant Contact and website CMS tools.
  • Project Management Tools: Comfortable working with Asana Trello or similar systems to manage timelines deliverables and cross-functional workflows.
  • Web Content Tools: Experienced in updating web content in CMS platforms such as WordPress or Simpleview to ensure accuracy and alignment with campaigns.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Proficient in Excel and familiar with reporting dashboards (Google Analytics Power BI or equivalent) to compile metrics and insights.
  • Collaboration Tools: Fluent with Microsoft Teams Outlook Word and SharePoint for internal communication coordination and document management.
  • Event & Engagement Support Tools: Working knowledge of Eventbrite or related platforms to support event logistics and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 35 years of experience in marketing communications social media or design-focused coordination roles ideally in a fast-paced multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Education: Degree or diploma in marketing communications graphic design or a related field.
  • Writing & Editing: Strong copywriting proofreading and ability to communicate clearly across digital and stakeholder channels.
  • Design Literacy: Ability to create and format on-brand assets using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Project Coordination: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and collaborate across teams.
  • Tourism & Community Knowledge: Understanding of Saskatoons tourism cultural and business landscape is an asset and supports authentic storytelling.
