Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): Under the direction of the Public Safety Department CSOs will enhance building security. CSOs shall promote community safety and facilitate accessibility for academic and athletic buildings on campus. CSOs will also provide walking safety escorts to students who may be concerned for their personal safety. CSOs shall issue temporary vehicle permits to confirmed visitors of the college. CSOs will also supplement Public Safety personnel for special events held on the campus by assisting with traffic direction parking and crowd management. Additionally CSOs may assist in providing emergency services to the campus as determined by Public Safety should a need arise.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Safe Walk Transports CSOs will provide walking escorts for students concerned about personal safety on campus.
Officer Assistance CSOs will be called upon to assist Public Safety Officers with their duties. This could include but is not limited to traffic control event security building unlocks etc.
Community Development CSOs will promote positive relationships with students faculty staff and visitors at all times. This will be achieved by treating others with dignity courtesy respect and concern. CSOs will be expected to enforce building and college policies fairly and consistently.
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)
Must be a full-time St. Olaf student and remain in good academic standing.
Must have a valid drivers license.
Ability to walk several flights of stairs repeatedly.
Able to stand or walk for extended periods.
Ability to push pull and lift 50 pounds.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to politely and respectfully confront potential policy violators.
Must be reliable conscientious and able to work independently of direct supervision.
Ability to handle and safeguard confidential information.
Ability to work in all weather conditions and function in large crowds.
Physical and Environmental Factors:
This position requires standing walking/traversing climbing stairs crouching twisting/pivoting grasping/handling pushing/pulling lifting and carrying objects up to 20 lbs. driving and operating equipment or machinery to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise extreme cold and proximity hazards as well as rare exposure to respiratory factors chemicals vibrations wet or humid conditions indoors extreme heat and heights or cramped quarters to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required for some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
