Job Summary

Full-Time and Permanent; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Endorsement in the State of Virginia as a reading specialist (masters degree in Reading required)
  2. Minimum of at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility
  3. Leadership skills necessary to assist teachers parents and administrators as a

Nature of Position

  • Provide professional development coaching and planning focusing on tier 1 reading and writing instruction
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
  • Designs and delivers instruction for students small groups and/or classes assigned to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines and shows evidence of lesson preparation upon request of administrator (s)
  • Diagnosis individual group and program needs and plans for the appropriate use of time materials technology and resources to promote the development of critical thinking problem solving and performance skills
  • Evaluates students progress; provides students with specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress information for reports
  • Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations and documents student learning gains using a variety of appropriate assessment instruments
  • Differentiates instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Selects evaluates and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement and self-motivation of students and improvement of student learning
  • Implements discipline practices that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
  • Manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time in order to motivate students to achieve maximum potential
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers staff administrators parents and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of personal professional development
  • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies
  • Communicates with special education and classroom teachers students student counselors and parents through conferences and other means
  • Participates in curriculum development programs faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required
  • Provides support for the special education and classroom teachers in relation to the Standards of Learning remediation acceleration and the district curriculum
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school/system policies and practices
  • Models professional moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions
