General Purpose
The Seasonal Engineering Intern will assist Technical Services with data collection design mapping planning construction inspection and asset management. Seasonal Engineering Interns work 40 hours per week. Candidates for this internship have an interest in design construction and municipal government.
Learning Outcomes:- Use of industry software
- Understanding of transportation design standards and how they are applied in real-world projects
- Experience in multimodal planning including pedestrian bicycle and roadway infrastructure
- Experience in data collection analysis and application
- Participating in and understanding the role of transportation engineering in a public agency
- Gaining awareness of career pathways in the civil engineering industry

Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/weekEssential Job Functions
- Assist with construction inspection and daily logs of work
- Create maps and scaled drawings and design plans using AutoCAD and ArcGIS
- Collect and process traffic data
- Prepare asset inspection reports and analyze and input data
- Inventory and assess assets such as streets sidewalks bicycle facilities maps and files
- Collect data in the field using GIS GPS surveying and public records
- Create or manipulate GIS data and databases
- Research and write reports memos outreach materials and written correspondence related to Public Works projects
- Organize records
- Assist in preparing for and/or attending public meetings
- Complete work independently and with regular communication to Public Works engineers and planners
- Perform work in a Windows-based computer environment
Non-Essential Job Functions:
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

- Experience or coursework in the collection of new data using professional mapping grade GPS preferred.
- Ability to work independently efficiently effectively and cooperatively.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines.
- Ability to record and maintain information for future access.
- Input access and analyze data using a computer.
- Ability to provide customer service to the public and City staff.
- Must be able to handle various projects at the same time work effectively under pressure and keep schedules on track.
- Ability to work with a diverse population with a strong commitment to equity and inclusion among City staff and the general public.
