POSITION SPECIFICS

Applications are invited for the position of Research Veterinarian (Assistant Research Professor / Associate Research Professor / Research Professor) within the Animal Resource Program (ARP) at The Pennsylvania State University. This position is based on the University Park Campus located in State College PA.

Responsibilities include clinical veterinary care disease surveillance and oversight of biosecurity collaborating with investigators to support their research working with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to review protocols and policies and participating with semiannual facilities inspections and program reviews providing training to researchers and students and assisting with the efforts of compliance and administrative groups such the Biosafety Committee the Office for Research Protections Environmental Health and Safety Office of Physical Plant Occupational Health and Safety and others as necessary.

This position holds a non-tenure line faculty appointment in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research reporting to the Director of the ARP. The ARP is an interdisciplinary research and teaching support department that provides animal husbandry veterinary care and training for over 20 departments 5 colleges and 500 investigative faculty and staff. The ARP has a faculty and staff of around 30 individuals including 4 veterinarians and 2 veterinary technicians. ARP operates 12 campus vivaria including gnotobiotic and ABSL-3 facilities. The entire Penn State animal care program is fully accredited by AAALAC International including the laboratory animals agricultural animals and wildlife species.

Minimum qualifications include a DVM/VMD degree from a veterinary school accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or equivalent qualifications. Preferred qualifications include board certification by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) and/or completion of an ACLAM-recognized training program. The veterinarian must have outstanding interpersonal skills excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with an inclusive population.
