Description

Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for Academic Advisors in the Student Success Program primary function of the Academic Advisor is to advise undergraduate students regarding program requirements course selection and class scheduling.

Duties and Responsibilities of Position:

AcademicStudent Advisement 40%

  • Advisestudentsaboutacademicrequirementsandselectionofcourses
  • Performandinterpretdegreeaudits
  • Demonstraterespectforallindividuals
  • Participate in the planning implementation and the evaluation of the academic advisement programs goals and objectives.
  • Identifyoptionsforstudentstosatisfydegreerequirements;assiststudentsincompletion
  • Participateinorientationsforthefirsttimecollegestudentsandtransferstudents
  • Coordinate communication to the students regarding such things as registration and academic probation; this could include the maintenance of a student listserv
  • Participateininstitutionalstudentdevelopmentandretentionprograms
  • Serveasresourceforfaculty/staff

Administrative & Programmatic Duties 20%

  • Disseminateinformationoninstitutionalpoliciesandprocedures
  • Understand the institutions interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty parents students etc.
  • Reviewandinterpretationofplacementandotherstandardizedtestscoresunofficialtranscriptsandcourses prerequisites
  • Developadvisingmaterialsandpresentationstosupportindividualandgroupstudentsessions

Data Assessment & Continuous Improvement 20%

  • Maintainaccuraterecords(includingelectronicrecords)ofinteractionswithstudents
  • Maintainsystematicandfrequentcontactwithadvisees
  • Stayabreastofchanginginstitutionalinformationincludingadmissionsrequirementsnewprogramscoursechanges deadlines important dates costs expanding facilities updates in collegewide initiatives transfer requirements and state and federal mandates
  • Engageinprofessionaldevelopmentactivitieswhichmayincludebutarenotlimitedtomembershipsinprofessional organizations; attendance at conferences workshops division and department training sessions; stay current with information technology skills

Student Success & Engagement 15%

  • Beastudentadvocatewhenappropriate
  • Serveasliaisonandfosterintentionalrelationshipswithotheradvisorsofficescollegesanddepartments.
  • Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as comprehensive counseling financial assistance study abroad etc.
  • Monitorstudentregistrationactivitiesandrecommendsolutionstoacademicdifficulties

OtherDutiesasassigned5%

  • PerformotherdutiesasassignedbytheDirectorofAcademicAdvising

EducationandExperienceRequiredatHireandPreferredRequired

Education and Experience at Hire

  • Bachelorsdegree in education counseling social work psychology sociology or related field

Candidates must hold a bachelors degree in education counseling social work psychology sociology or related field. This degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge skills and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Education and Experience -

  • MastersdegreeinPsychologyHigherEducationCounselingorrelatedfields
  • Experienceadvisingand/orcounselinginHigherEducation
  • Experienceworkingwithcollegestudentsandparents

Screening Services (Background Checks): Your employment with Pittsburg State University is contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check and sex offender check.

Salary Range: $41000 - $44000

Job Type: Unclassified

Appointment Duration: 12 months

Work Schedule: Full TimeMonday through Friday
