Our programs are staffed by experts who help over 325000 clients each year and advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations family violence services Holocaust survivor assistance geriatric social work crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries affordable housing sites and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary:

The porter is responsible for ensuring that all areas of assigned building(s) are cleaned according to the provided schedule. The porter will also properly remove trash and recyclables on DSNY assigned days.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • General cleaning of common areas in assigned building.
  • General cleaning of perimeter of assigned building.
  • Removal of garbage and recyclables in compliance with DSNY rules and regulations.
  • Cleaning of compactor and garbage chute rooms.
  • Assist Senior Superintendent Handyman and Porters as assigned.
  • Coordinate access for outside contractors as assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Skill and Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.

Physical Demands:

  1. Required Constantly: Walking standing climbing stairs lifting of materials and tools (5-50 pounds).
  2. Required Frequently: Climbing ladders operating machinery.
  3. Required Occasionally: Shoveling of snow reaching above the shoulder pushing and pulling.

Compensation: $20.00 per hour
