Dr. Andrea Reid Centre for Indigenous Fisheries (CIF) Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries (IOF) University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking to hire a research associate to serve as delegate principal investigator focussing dually on CIF operations and the study of Indigenous experiences with and perspectives on sea lamprey control in the Laurentian Great Lakes.
Qualified applicants will have a PhD in oceans and fisheries or related successful candidate will have extensive experience (4 years) in designing implementing analyzing and translating Indigenous community-based research with a particular focus on social-ecological justice in aquatic contexts. Experience with Indigenous ways of knowing being and doing and the ability to apply that understanding in all aspects of the work is essential. Furthermore the candidate must have demonstrated proficiency with transcription software (e.g. Trint) as well as qualitative data analysis software (e.g. NVivo).
A high level of cultural competency and sensitivity is necessary in this position as any insensitive actions could jeopardize our longstanding research relationships with the Indigenous communities we work with and for.
Errors in design implementation and analysis could jeopardize this research including inaccuracies or incompleteness of data collection or errors in the collection and handling of community data could result in erroneous data analysis and study results; therefore it is imperative that the successful candidate is detail-oriented and very careful with their work.
