Job Description:

Primary Purpose

The Centre for Work-Integrated Learning (Centre for WIL) is a part of the Co-op and Experiential Education (CEE) portfolio. Centre for WIL fosters excellence in the pedagogy and practice of Work Integrated Learning as a thought leader and key provider of curriculum courses and programs in this field. As a member of the Centre for WIL Curriculum Development team this position has three main areas of focus:

1. Leading and managing curriculum development projects for WIL initiatives by applying pedagogical instructional design and project management expertise.

2. Consulting with members of the university community to inform Quality WIL and curricular enhancement in WIL-related courses and programs.

3. Disseminating knowledge best practices and research in online learning instructional design curriculum development and quality WIL via presentations training and learning and applied research within the centre for WIL across campus and in the broader fields of WIL and SOTL.

Key Accountabilities
Curricular Development & Project Management (70%)

• Applies expertise in pedagogy and e-learning to advise authors/subject matter experts on the creation of effective learning outcomes online teaching strategies learning activities and tasks and assessment strategies.

• Determines instructor student and program needs; design constraints; resources limitations etc. and factors these into the course design.

• Acts as project manager and primary liaison between the project team and Centre for WIL and with the authors/subject matter experts and other stakeholders during projects.

• Defines and manages projects by developing and implementing project documents to identify scope timelines and deliverables for all stakeholders.

• Manages relationships with all stakeholders including coordinating and facilitates regular stakeholder and project meetings.

• Updates the Senior Manager Work-Integrated Learning Curriculum and other internal and external stakeholders on project progress and proactively informs stakeholders of issues or potential delays identifies solutions and/or troubleshoots issues as appropriate.

• Applies curricular and instructional design best practices while advising faculty authors industry partners Centre for WIL staff and other subject matter experts on effective practices in online teaching and learning.

• Develops course content in collaboration with authors/subject matter experts applying principles of Quality WIL and knowledge of copyright accessibility online learning and pedagogical theory.

• Manages copyright integration and records for sourced content as needed and leads the acquisition of copyright permissions when necessary.

• Assesses course design against key frameworks such as the Centre for Extended Learnings Online Learning Quality Guidelines Quality WIL PEAR and AAA frameworks etc.

• Systematically analyzes curricular content and evaluation data and other data sources to determine effectiveness relevance and to make recommendations to stakeholders.

• Leads and manages direct reports (co-op students casual staff) and ensures the delivery of high-quality results in support of CEE mission vision and guiding principles.

Consultation on Quality WIL & Curricular Enhancement (20%)

• Participates in projects and initiatives with faculty members and support units to inform curricular enhancement of existing courses or on the development of new courses with planned WIL components.

• Provides consultation and programming related to WIL related curriculum development and quality enhancement.

• Develops resources related to all aspects of WIL curriculum design and development in alignment with Quality frameworks.

• Consults with other departments on campus on issues that directly or indirectly relate to curriculum development online learning instructional design Work-Integrated learning etc.

Thought Leadership & Dissemination of Quality WIL Practices (10%)

Continually monitors research in WIL teaching and learning and online learning to inform/refine evidence-based practices related to course design and delivery

Conducts research on course design; helps design instruments to evaluate course and course elements; reviews results with authors/instructors

Partners with stakeholders on research projects when appropriate and helps design studies

Participates in discussions with peers within the University to share knowledge and gain further understanding of learning culture opportunities and issues

Contributes to local and international conferences on teaching and learning WIL etc.

Represents the unit on internal and external committees as required as well as at regional national and international meetings and conferences (e.g. STLHE EWO WACE etc.)

Qualifications

Education

Masters degree in instructional design instructional technology adult education or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

2 years experience applying sound course/instructional design in online learning at the post-secondary level

2 years experience providing course/pedagogical design guidance to faculty and/or industry stakeholders in a mentoring or development role

Experience leading strategic projects and/or initiatives

Experience working in WIL settings an asset

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy while interacting with a wide range of campus partners

Proven strength in collaboration and relationship management

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated project management skills and experience maintaining relationships and project timelines to meet deliverables

In-class and/or online teaching experience an asset

Understanding of the principles of experiential learning and/or experience with Work-Integrated learning an asset

Understanding of own social location power and privileges to call out own biases in personal design preferences; ability to prioritize universal design and equity-specific needs related to online learning and course development

Experience with the effective application of a learning management system (LMS) and other eLearning technologies
