Job Summary

Position Objective

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is seeking a highly-skilled and innovative instructor to build a supportive environment for adult learners as they train for a career in welding. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with the programs diverse student body. Will help support the colleges work to cultivate an inclusive culture and campus climate by valuing diversity sustaining an environment of belonging and promoting equitable opportunities for all.
The successful candidate will work to eliminate equity gaps and help students succeed in their chosen career path and in what is an increasingly diverse work environment. The Welding Instructor will deliver extensive knowledge and experience to the students in the Welding program to meet the Colleges mission of Educating Tomorrows Workforce.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other instructors in the welding program and carry out functions related to the position as described below. The candidate will work collaboratively with advising and other student services to best support student success. Additionally the successful candidate will work collaboratively as an active participant in our shared governance processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment.

*While the full salary range for this position is listed please note that we dont typically hire near the top of the range unless based on knowledge skills and abilities and internal equity.

This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers Local 3913 AFT/ AFT Washington.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing various teaching techniques to prepare students for entry-level employment in the welding industry.
Tasks include:

  • Teach the welding curriculum related to the welding Technology Certificate programs.
  • Create implement and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes and to maintain relevancy to the current welding industry and standards.
  • Maintain and manage classroom environment equipment tools and supplies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for the purchasing of equipment materials and supplies related to the welding program.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
  • Maintain a safe environment through instruction policy and continuous program equipment and laboratory space.
  • Utilize an online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning. Create assignments and projects for students that maximize student learning.
  • Maintain accurate student progress records update them promptly and assess and provide feedback on student learning.
  • Submit student grades on time.
  • Provide career guidance and job placement assistance.
  • Maintain current guidance and job placement assistance required for certification purposes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Duty:Perform college support functions for the welding program and the College.
Tasks include:
  • Provide office hours for student advising.
  • Participate on college committees.
  • Participate in shared governance.
  • Support the program by giving tours monitoring program enrollment retention completions and employment statistics implementing student retention practices and engaging in program recruitment activities Engage in program recruitment activities both on and off campus and promote the program with regional employers businesses and industry associations.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external colleagues to recruit retain and facilitate employment for students.
  • Attend staff meetings division meetings and program-related meetings.
  • Attend and conduct program information sessions.
  • Attend college events and other functions as directed.
  • Provide and maintain program information and communication with the college community.
  • Provide tours monitor program enrollment retention completion and employment statistics

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Welder certification(s) from at least one of the following organizations: WABO AWS ASME.
  • Two years of recent full-time work experience in welding.
  • Proficiency in all position welding using SMAW GMAW FCAW with carbon steel stainless steel and minimum as appropriate.
  • Proficiency in each of the welding techniques taught at CPTC (Flux Cored Gas Metal Arc Gas Tungsten Arc Shielded Metal Arc Metallurgy and Blueprint Reading).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree/certificate or completion of recognized apprenticeship related to welding.
  • More than two years of full time experience in welding.
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
  • Current AWS or ASME welder certification.
  • Teaching and/or supervisory experience.
