Maintenance Mechanic-Distribution
Salary: $33.64- $38.43 upon meeting progression step requirements.. This position will operate pipe cutters pipe threading machine power cut saw cutting torch drill press impact drills backhoe dump truck and hand tools; prepare excavation work site including erecting barricades shoring and other safety related equipment; requisition materials and parts; stock maintain and operate a service vehicle. This position will also interpret blueprints diagrams sketches and job specifications; estimate time and material to be used on the job; stock maintain and may operate a University service vehicle.
Breakdown of job responsibilities are as follows:
35%: Use of heavy equipment (Backhoe forklift dump truck) to assist with all maintenance and repair activities.
35%: Use of directional bore equipment.
20%: Interpret blueprints diagrams sketches and job specifications. Material handling.
10%: Correspondence through email training meetings and professional development.

Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
Successful completion of an applicable trade-specific Trades Helper program or completion of an approved apprenticeship program or an associate degree or equivalent education/experience.
Five years experience in the trade that includes; Two years of experience in commercial Outside Distribution installation maintenance and troubleshooting and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification or equivalent education/experience.
Must pass an assessment to receive progression step increases at and after the 18-month mark.
Expert knowledge of methods materials tools equipment occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Expert knowledge of applicable building codes rules and regulations (local state and federal).
Possession of a valid vehicle operators license.
Furnish own tools.
Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.
Experience operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe and dump truck. Possession of a valid Michigan Class A Commercial Drivers License with applicable endorsements and medical certificate to comply with State of Michigan requirements; Experience in customer contact.

NON-STANDARD/VARIABLE WORK HOURS: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and may require after-hours weekend and holiday work.
