Position Summary:
Type: Director of Health Safety and Environmental (HSE)
Position: Full-time
Location: Head Office Fort McKay
Schedule: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday (Alternating Friday off)

Role Summary:
The Director of Health Safety and Environment (HSE) plays a pivotal role in shaping and leading Bouchiers HSE culture and strategy. Responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive policies procedures and protocols that align with strategic objectives. This head office-based role involves frequent travel to site locations to support and enhance HSE management systems across the organization. You will oversee a diverse team of front-line HSE professionals working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver expert HSE services and guidance. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement in our HSE practices ensuring a safe and compliant work environment across all operational sites.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implement and enhance HSE systems by developing promoting and overseeing HSE systems to ensure proactive management continuous improvement in operational performance and integration of HSE activities into daily operations.
- Assess and enhance workforce competency against HSE standards procedures and practices and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with jurisdictional regulators and assist in the preparation of HSE regulations where applicable.
- Document maintain and communicate HSE policies standards procedures and best practices.
- Support the development implementation and analysis of health and safety reporting systems track and communicate HSE performance and benchmark HSE statistics.
- Provide technical assistance during incident investigations identify root causes monitor follow-up actions and share outcomes with the organization.
- Identify assess and implement HSE programs and new technologies to improve operations and HSE performance.
- Periodically review and update policies procedures and work practices in line with policy development and organizational objectives.
- Recognize and reward HSE excellence and assist in developing training programs to enhance personnel skills in HSE matters.
- Arrange for and manage third-party reviews and audits of HSE systems procedures and workplaces and follow up on resulting recommendations.
- Promote HSE goals within all business functions assist in setting annual safety performance objectives and targets and integrate safety issues into business planning and management.
- Regularly report on HSE progress and present updates to the corporate team.
- Oversee claims management including handling insurance claims working with legal teams managing the claims process and implementing strategies to mitigate future claims.
- Ensure compliance with WCB laws interface with WCB representatives manage compensation and rehabilitation processes and use WCB data to improve safety and reduce incidents.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the CEO to support the organizations objectives and operational needs.
Education & Experience:
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) accreditation is preferred.
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety Environmental Science Engineering or a related field is considered an asset
- 10-15 years of overall experience in HSE management is required.
- 5-7 years of specific experience in the oil and gas industry including upstream oil and gas Oil Sands or heavy construction.
- 5-7 years of direct experience in claims management including managing and overseeing claims related to health safety and environmental issues.
- 3-5 years of proven and direct experience with Workers Compensation Board (WCB) processes including familiarity with WCB regulations and managing worker compensation cases.
- Proven expertise with provincial legislation interpreting Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations safety codes and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and trends and translate findings into actionable strategies.
- Experience conducting audits inspections and incident investigations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
- Ability to visit and work on all sites within the Oil Sands region without restrictions.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License is required.
