Schedule:Full-Time Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3:30pm

Essential Functions:

  1. Obtain patient history; assess physical and psychosocial needs; develop nursing plan of care and participate in car with multidisciplinary team members; revise plan of care as necessary.
  2. Read understand and implement psychiatrists orders
  3. Call physician for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies.
  4. Provide crisis management for disturbed patients
  5. Assist with mental health provider scheduling.
  6. Assist psychiatrist in examinations and treatment of patients
  7. Administrator medication and accurately and completely document treatment as required by applicable policies and procedures.
  8. Provide individual education to SMI inmates regarding benefits and side effects of medication especially psychotropic medications.
  9. Assess patient condition on an ongoing for depressive state thoughts of self-mutilation delusions hallucinations sensorial and intellectual function general appearance mood/affect and medication side effects and document in medical record or other forms as appropriate
  10. Demonstrate ability to provide care for patients who are confused disoriented delirious demented withdrawn paranoid suspicious suicidal etc.
  11. Demonstrate an understanding of the following psychiatric disorders in planning nursing care for patients: organic schizophrenic personality depressive bipolar anxiety obsessive/compulsive disruptive behavior eating developmental adjustment psychoactive substance use somatoform dissociative factitious and post-traumatic stress.
  12. Maintain clean work area; use or direct the use of appropriate sanitation methods.
  13. Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
  14. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
  15. Review medical files to determine all provided services are documented.
  16. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
  17. Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws especially those covering controlled substances.
  18. Assess identify and document high risk symptoms/behaviors in patient such as suicidal risk homicidal risk verbal and physical acting out and other violent behavior.
  19. Provide health counseling and health education on individual or group basis as required
  20. Inspect medical unit for items that could be used as contraband by inmates; securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment. Control medication syringes or other medical supplies.
  21. Perform work on an on-call basis as required.
  22. Provide health education on individual or group basis as required.
  23. Prepare and maintain narrative statistical summary and operational records reports and logs.
  24. Assist corporate counsel with responses to inmate lawsuits.
  25. Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
  26. Facilitate where applicable NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.
  27. Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures; take appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
  28. Properly document medical care.
  29. Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries with accuracy as directed gather information and evidence interview and obtain the statements; exercise independent judgment by determining when probably cause exists to recommend disciplinary action.
  30. Perform rescue functions at accidents emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid physically removing people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
  31. Interpret an extensive variety of medical and technical instructions in the form of handwritten text correspondence policies regulations procedures reports directions for forms completion and other documents.
  32. Read analyze comprehend and interpret medical and technical procedures governmental regulations legal and non-legal documents including the processing of such documents as medical instructions commitment orders summons and other legal writs.
  33. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Degree in nursing and current valid nursing license for the state of Ohio

Must possess current CPR certification and work within the Ohio State Board of Nursing Scope of Practice.

Valid drivers license in the state of Ohio with an acceptable driving record required unless waived by management.

Post Hire Qualifications and Training Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
